Combed cotton sheets are smooth, soft and usually quite affordable. High-end Egyptian cotton is ELS (extra-long staple) cotton that grows along the Nile River. Although some packaging may mark bed sheets as Egyptian cotton, true Egyptian cotton is usually reflected in both a softer feel and a higher price. Flannel sheets with their plush feel are a good option for someone who wants "cozy" feeling to their sheets. An affordable percale bed sheet is usually made out of 100% cotton or polyester and is available in 180 to 200 thread counts.
Thread count is the amount of vertical and horizontal thread inside one square inch of a sheet. The greater the thread count, the softer the bed sheet will feel. Sheets with a 200 to 400 thread count are often quite affordable and will suit those on a tight budget. For a little more, 200 to 400 thread-count sheets are soft and airy and are often made out of a sateen or twill weave fabric. If you want luxury bed sheets, you should look for sheets with a 500 to 1,000 thread count. Luxury sheets are silkier and heavier.
Bed sheets can also complement the décor of your bedroom. However, it is not a good idea to pick out bed sheets based on color or print. Style may be attractive but if you want something comfortable, you should consider thread count and fabric type first.
