This is the first epilator I've used. I chose this one based on the reviews here, and I'm glad I did. I was sick of shaving and don't want to wax so thought I'd try this.

A few tips: It DOES sting, tough it's really NOT as painful as I thought it would be. Transition slowly into use of this product over a few days/week or so--when the pain gets too bad, stop, and pick it up again later or the next day. Better to do a little bit each day than to kill yourself all at once!

Use it at night or when you know you won't be going bare-legged, since it can give a red, plucked-chicken look for a few hours.

What works for me is to pull the skin taut, use the faster speed (this one has two speeds) and move the unit slowly over the area. Experiment and see what works best for you.

The unit is loud (no gentle buzzing!) and the cord can be a tad annoying, but I've read that the cordless ones are less powerful. I may be wrong.

The unit comes with 2 head attachments: a "beginner" one wi

I received the Braun Silk-epil today and got straight to work on my bikini area (the sole reason I purchased this item).

It worked like a charm! It was a bit painful (3 to 5 on a scale of 1-10) and I had to take a few short breaks. But what do you expect? It pulls the hair out by the roots. But the vibrations from the Silk-epil does help decrease the discomfort a bit.

I was able to complete my Brazilian-esque in one session (about 20-30 min including the breaks). I did notice a couple areas where the device had pinched and broken the skin, but I'm sure it was due to my novice experience with using this product.

It did miss a few very fine, short hairs that I ended up pulling out with tweezers, but overall it did a fantastic job! It didn't break off hairs and aside from the few fine hairs, it got everything!

I had previously tried waxing my bikini area at home (I'm too shy to have it done at a salon) and was very unhappy with the results. Waxing got less than half of

This product is awesome for my legs and I've been using it for over a year. Yes, it does hurt the first time you use it, but the results are worth it. I was having very thick black hair growth that could be seen under the skin, especially on the back of my legs (calf area). Since I've been using the epilator, I don't have that problem. I do need to use it every day to really keep my legs hair-free, I am quite hairy so always seem to have a few popping out every day.

I also tried to use this for my bikini area and it would have been super except that I began getting nasty ingrowns. I tried to go back to shaving my bikini but it was too late, the hairs were already growing in weird directions and the bumps continued. It has been a terrible nightmare and I tried everything- exfoliated daily, got medicated bikini gel, tried to pull out the hairs before they turned into ingrowns. Nothing really worked and I now have scars to show my struggle. I finally settled on laser hair removal for

I have been using an epi for over 25years. From the original spring to now the tweezers. Trust me the tweezers are much less painful.
I am disappointed in this brand. There are not enough tweezers, so it takes longer to use. You have to make too many passes to remove the hair. What used to take me 10-15 mins to shave, now takes 30-45 mins. I will go back to my Emjoi. Read more

I am at that age where women get hair where they shouldn't about their face. Scaredy-cat of pain, I shaved my face and my arms with a razor... then each day began using this unit and it took only a few minutes. As the hair slowly grew in, it was removed and I got used to the procedure. After just a couple weeks now, I have nice smooth cheeks and arms, without a lot of pain nor rash/irritation. I am really happy with the results I have. I was already waxing my legs and am using up the last of my supplies before applying htis device to those, as well. Read more
