I bought one three years ago, and it has worked flawlessly for me on Gateway, Dell and HP laptops running Windows XP and Vista. It has connected to my Palm, other computers, and numerous Cisco, Nortel, and Bay Network routers. I use it reguarly for my network consulting business. I had tried ones from other retailers and was not satisfied. Either they did not work or were unrelieable. This one worked from the start, and I have earned many times it's purchase price.

I am an advanced user, so understand how to set up the COM ports...this is the only difficulty I have had, with the exception of my son playing with it and leaving it where the dog could chew it to peices last night. Overall it has been a great product, but less advanced users might have problems setting up COM ports as the documentation does not go into great detail Read more

USB to serial converter - did not work to connect laptop running VISTA to a "STAMP" microprocessor board also sold by Radio Shack. Did work when I connected to my computer at work running XP or Windows 2000. Read more

Bought this to connect my car's ECU to my laptop. I have a laptop with a built-in serial port and the car works with it. However, on my laptop without a serial port, with the car connected through this cable, it will not work at all.

After monkeying with it for hours, I eventually got it to read values from my car's ECU, but they were way off. RPM's were reading between 9,000 and 9,999 when at idle. That is the closest to working that I managed to get.

Would recommend a different brand, as it doesn't seem to be fully RS232 compliant. Might not be UART compliant either (maybe that's the problem). Read more

Bought this for my laptop and am surprised how well it worked. I have 2 adapters I used with XP, most things worked with one adapter and not the other. I recently installed Windows 7 64 bit and neither adapter had updated drivers. I tried this adapter and the OS properly detected it. I successfully programmed a yaesu vx-7r and magellan meridian flawlessly. These two units needed separate cables before but both played well with this cable. The price is high, but it got me programming again. Read more

I am using the Gigaware 26-949 6' Serial to USB cable to connect Garmin GPS units (GPS 152 and ForeTrex 101) to Windows Vista, SP-1. This to run Updater (updates GPS unit firmware) and EasyGPS (Trip and waypoint manager). The Vista driver supplied via CD with the cable and available via download from the Radio Shack site did not work properly and was producing Framing Errors. I uninstalled the Vista driver and installed the 2K-XP version and things went smoothly from there. I used 9600 baud and COM3 for the GPS 152. Read more
