Bought it. Left town and drove to an address 250 mi away. I had fun. It seems very competent. Not perfect mind you but way more than I expected. Not sure even how it compares because I did very little study. I was pleased with the straight out of the box performance. Didn't even need the paper instructions. Leaving today on a 3000 mile tour. We've considered a GPS for our car for some time. We looked at Tom-Tom's, Magellans, Garmins and Navigon. Magellan just came out with a new line of hand helds and they have had a bit of a rocky start. So, we were initially a little leary of this new addition to the Magellan Auto GPS line. But, one vendor had them as part of a working display and my wife and I got a chance to try the unit out in demo mode in the store. The unit was quick and flawless. Though the unit has 6 Million points of interest, not every gas station, store and Resturaunt is in there. We find the problems to be with the establishments that are 10 or more years old. We also found this problem with the other brands as well. We actually liked the Tom Tom better than the garmin as well. Garmin is mighty proud of their units and need to figure out that they need to bring down the price point if they are going to stay competitive. Cons It hard to hear even with the volume all the way up dont open a window or you can hear at all it would be better if you could use the car radio and speakers Additional Thoughts the price is a bit high for it I think you can find a cheaper one with the same features. Read more

This generated a 1500 mile route for a 700 mile trip that could have been almost straight line on interstates. Its navigation algorithm is really, really terrible. The menu selection mode is cute, but both outputs (map and directions) is almost unusable and extremely slow to work through. Ten year old GPSs had better interfaces and algorithms. I own several Magellin and Garmins; Magellin has insulted my intelligence too much to ever get another chance. Read more

As you can see by my pros and cons, I think this is a great unit. We bought it for a trip to Canada & it worked great. The exit points of interests were very helpful because the highway we were on didn't have a lot of restaurants so we were able to find a restaurant that we wouldn't have known was there. The widescreen is great, and this is a feature that usually costs more than the $250 that I paid for this unit. Touch screen is easy to use. Definitely read the electronic user manual when you get it so you get the most out of it. When we were in Canada, there were times that there were traffic jams on a city street it directed us to take, so we turned off that road. It recalculated our route quietly and seamlessly. It's a great help to know that you won't get lost, even if you decide to check out a different road.
