I used spd and used them for 30 mile work commutes as well as 20 mile hard lunch rides. Stiff soul allows transfer of power to bike. Only complaint is that after 11 months of hard use (rain and shine riding) the inner black plastic near the bolts is beginning to crack. I should note that I have allready broken a spd pedal this year - I am bit hard at the start at some stop lights.
