It's great in that respect. The answering machine hangs up automatically. The problem is that instead of 10 seconds of silence, it hangs up randomly when it feels like it. Another problem is making out the playback.(barely) It's audio quality is far behind a victrola. The pros out weigh the cons. After learning to decypher the messages. Considering no other cordless has large buttons with good cordless, it's good.
