The living room in our new apartment measures 18' x 16'. I began researching systems online that would fill the space with surround sound without breaking the bank. I have owned a number of Onkyo components over the years, and have always been impressed with the build quality and price/performance ratio. The HT-S6100 is no exception.

COMPONENTS:
The heart of this home theater system is the AV receiver, which is essentially a beefed-up version of the Onkyo TX-SR606. The 606 is one of the most highly rated receivers you can buy for less than $600, and with good reason: 4 HDMI inputs, excellent on-board video upscaling, and the Audyssey 2 automatic speaker calibration. The HT-S6100's receiver adds more power to each channel over the 606.

The speakers are sleek and can easily be hung directly on the wall, using an anchored screw and the included rubber pads. The Left, Right, and Center channels are now wall-mounted around my LCD and not only sound great but look amazing. The

This system is great. I dont have alot of money but for the price that I got from J&R.com I couldn't pass it up([...]out the door including s/h). It's the 1st HTIB that I've ever purchased. It sounds great in my living room which is 20'X16'. It was very easy to set up along with the use of the Audyssey DynamicEQ which is very nice. I love the iPod dock. I use that everyday. The speakers sound great and the sub has enough punch to when I have it cranked up I can hear it when I go get my mail across my acreage. Good thing my neighbors are 8 acres away. The look of the whole system fits right in with everything that I currently am using. My HT-S6100 is hooked up to my Toshiba 65" HD LCD TV, Sony BDP-BX1 Blu-Ray player, Comcast Motorola DCH3200 cable box, and XBOX 360. All connectivity is by the use of Monster's M1000 SERIES HDMI cables including the M1000 sub cable. I also purchased my Onkyo speaker stands(4) on eBay for [$]. which look great and hide the speaker wires. The (2)

[...] Currently it's anchoring my living room's A/V setup, which includes a SA8300 DVR from the cable company, a Playstation 3, an XBox360 and a Wii.Setup is extremely fast and as straightforward as it can be for something with 8 speakers, though the 24-ga supplied speaker wires are woefully insufficient for a typical surround layout. Once everything was connected via 14-ga wire and banana plugs, it took about 10 minutes to configure the inputs and then calibrate via the included mic/setup procedure. The resulting sound was enough to justify the purchase price many times over, and while I'd prefer to have wood cabinetry for the speakers, they still sound great regardless. Punchy and clean, with clearly defined output throughout the audio range, the system as delivered is an excellent foundation for home theater and HD gaming. You can always upgrade the speakers later on if you want to 'step up' -- the receiver is a 'real' A/V receiver that will do justice to even truly high-end sp

Overall a great value. Sounds great and easy to set up - running all of the speaker wires is the toughest part. I can't say that the sound blows me away but my room is quite large and many movies/DVDs don't have a lot going on in the back speakers. HDMI interconnects make it very nice. The microphone calibration is cool but not clear how much it really optimizes the setup for the room. It would be nice to have some test music to experiment more. I'm still a little confused as to what Dolby mode to put it in and if it automatically selects the best one for the source. The universal remote is awesome - controls all of the features of all of my components (even the two different styles of guides on my cable box). I agree with other reports that the speaker wires are a joke - I ran my own 14ga. Also had to do some homework to find the right speaker mounts for the rear speakers. They are too big for most mounts unless you mount them so the short dimension is up and down. Read more

If you are looking into getting a HT system but want a all in one solution you're search is over!! Onkyo offer the best HTIB for under $1000 and they all come with future proof receiver(well close to it at least). I have been looking into getting a system for a few months and have done much reading to understand the pro's and con's of different system. In the end I choice to go with either the Onkyo HTIB HT-6100 or Onkyo HTIB HT-7100. The two systems are pretty much the same, only different is that the 7100 comes with 1 Pair AS-140 speaker stands and the receiver has "Zone 2" feature which I wouldn't use. Also the two systems come with different receivers but they are pretty much the same outside of what I said about the Zone 2. The HT-6100 comes with the 667 model receiver and the HT-7100 comes with the 606 model receiver. Read more
