I have used this tripod for over a dozen caving expeditions with great success. It is VERY compact and can easily fit in a cave pack with no problem. It is lightweight and that makes a big difference when you are hauling photo gear through a wet, muddy cave. I have completely submerged it in water, and when I get back from my trips, it is usually caked in mud. No problem, since it is easy to almost completely disassemble and clean. I only recently replaced it when I dropped my previous one down a 140' deep pit and it pretty much shattered into a million pieces. The only problem I have encountered is that, because it so light, you might have trouble setting it up in a flowing stream, which tends to knock it over. Of course, you could just attach a heavy weight to it to alleviate this problem. All around good tripod. Read more

I've had this Magic 2 for some 15 years and it is the most convenient tripod to carry around and it carries modern slrs on its ball head without probs.

I love the way it folds into a flat package and one leg dismantled to produce a tall monopod.

For really serious work I use my Manfrotto but for everyday and travel, I choose my Cullmann Magic 2. Read more

I use this tripod strictly for cave photography, where small storage size is a major plus. It collapses flat, fits easily inside a cave pack, won't snag on anything while it's in there, and weighs next to nothing. Mine is covered completely in mud and dust after each trip and cleans easily. The shaft diameter of the center column fits 3/4" schedule 40 PVC pipe fittings perfectly, and the PVC pipe will then lock down in the tripod as well,so using a height extension of PVC pipe works perfectly. Had mine for 3+ years with over 40 caving photo trips. The mini-magic (I have 3 of these) works just as well for holding slaved flashes. Read more

I purchased this tripod from B&H Photo Video just before my trip to Europe based on price vs. characteristics comparison. I was really happy with it since it was very compact tripod, relatively lightweight and not too complicated to set up. However, after only 3 usages one of the screws got stuck and I could not move one of the legs (actually the part where the ballhead is) and re-assemble the tripod as it was in the box. The problem was that now the tripod was too large to fit in the suitcase. I am currently traveling through Europe via train and it's painful to drag the tripod since it doesn't fit in the suitcase now, but I can still use it to take night photos. However, I need to return to the US within a couple of days and the tripod cannot fit in the suitcase, so I will have to throw it away. Either I got a defective tripod or it's just poorly manufactured. In no way I mishandled it or screwed it too tightly. It's too bad that I cannot take it back with me and get it repared under

I travel back and forth from Ohio to Alaska at least once a year to be with my son and his family. My Cullman tripod fits my carryon luguage, never causing a security problem. Its the first thing out of my bag to steady close-ups of Alaska's beautiful Forget-me-nots when I arrive and it the last thing back into the bag after taking a time-released family group picture before I leave for home...to make sure I do not forget my loved ones on the 49th State. Read more
