This iPod operates as described once you set it up. This is our first MP3 player. I bought it for my 6 year old daughter. The instructions are limited to a very brief Quick Start guide. What the guide fails to mention is that you must load iTunes software to your computer to create a listening library for your iPod. The only way to figure this out is by viewing a manual on Apple's website. This took way too long to figure out. We have satellite internet service and downloading the software took about 50 minutes. If you do not have internet service to download the software you probably have to contact Apple to get a CD. It would have been much easier if the Quick Start guide mentioned the need for iTunes software and if a software CD had been included with the iPod. Once the listening library is set up, all worked fine. All in all, good product but very frustrating set-up. Read more

Simple and lightweight. Doesn't get in the way and allows you to just listen to your music. Use it during basketball, running, or anytime.Sound at highest volume is not the greatest, so you must turn it down a notch or two for best quality. Works best if you have a decent library because you cannot search for songs. Only option is to let it play straight through, or shuffle. Also has a nice option of randomly filling up with songs in your iTunes collection if you do not want to pick and choose yourself.Bottom line, can't go wrong for [$] If it breaks, or get ruined, it is easy to replace with another one. I use this as a secondary mp3 player. I have an iPhone and used to have an iPod, but found my bigger iPods too bulky for working out. It is great for the gym, because you just clip it to your clothes and forget about it. I only load my workout songs on it, and not my entire library, so that I only hear the songs I want to hear while working out. So, for the people who complain about the lack of features need to realize that the purpose of this iPod shuffle is to be low maintenance if you are doing physical activity. If you are looking for a primary mp3 player that you want to load all your music on and take everywhere, spend a little more and get the bigger iPods. Read more
