An excellent step up from blade grinders

I received the Breville grinder about 2 weeks ago and have been using it about every other day since then. Since I was stepping up from a blade grinder, the improvement has been remarkable. Much better tasting coffee and honestly, less noise than the blade grinder I was using. That's not to say the thing is silent, just less noisy than my alternative.
I had read some complaints about static causing the grinds to stick in the hopper and while there seems to always be a small amount that doesn't want to come out, it is far less than I was led to believe and really isn't even worth cleaning out.
The grind so far has been consistent, although I will say that I only use it for drip coffee as I don't have an espresso machine.
Cleanup has been very easy as there are only a few parts to remove and wiping things with a damp paper towel and letting them air-dry has been enough so far.
In conclusion, I would highly recommend the Breville to anyone looking to step up from the atrocious blad

Not only is the grinder great but the personnel of the Breville Company located in Torrance, CA were extremely, helpful in assisting me in returning the first one I received. For some strange reason it just would not grind. Not good for a grinder especially for a coffee drinker! [...]As for the grinder I love it! I love the fact that it doesn't jar my early morning calm, it is easy to use, easy to clean, and presents a very nice appearance in my dining room coffee station. I am very pleased I selected the Brille and I am also very pleased I selected to purchase it from Abe's of Main, another great organization. Thanks. Read more

Much quieter and definitely higher quality than others we have used. Much less mess. Breville seems consistent for high quality products and this one is. Read more

I use mine to grind 2-4 scoops a day, and after 5 months, not a single glitch. While there is a very small layer of fines in the bottom of my shot cup (I grind a low-oil medium roast bean at the 3rd "click" of the Espresso grind setting), I suspect it isn't going to get much better, unless you pony up the Lira for a Rancilio or Mazzer.
Getting the grounds out of the container can be a little messy, as it is a slightly irregular shape. Static has not been an issue. Burr heating during consecutive grind cycles has not been an issue. My machines include a Krups 964, a Krups FNC Novo 3000, and a Breville BES820XL. Read more

I bought this for making French press coffee, so I needed a consistent course grind. The Breville did this. Very little sludge left behind. I like the looks of it and how easy it is to operate - one button and voila. It's good entertainment for the kids as well :). Not as noisy as a blade grinder I had (Krups). Only knock I have against it - a bit messy to transfer the grinds. Read more
