So why would a pro, who can write off any camera in his taxes, settle for a mid-grade camera? Size, weight, feel, and reasonable costs on accessories (MB-D80 battery pack is half the price of the one for the D300)! Prosumer cameras also seem to have far more usable whistles and bells! Nearly two years ago, I chose the D80 over the D200, because the D200 felt (and weighed) much like a brick. When shooting a wedding, one has the camera around one's neck for 6 hours, so I really didn't want to add any chiropracters to my contact list. Besides, I baby my gear, and I don't need it constructed from Adamantium. Leave that for the paparazzi. The mid-grade line is also more user-friendly, with wonderful toys like Night-mode, perfect for capturing the newlyweds against white christmas lights with a star filter on the lens. The D90 has a cross filter in it's software! Now I don't have to keep that filter in my pocket, which tends to blur and halo the photos anyway. With active D-lighting, I hav

I got the Nikon D80 two weeks ago and then saw the rumors about the D90; I promptly returned the D80 to [...](thanks!) and got this baby kit yesterday, the day it was released. So my review will go over D90 as it compared to the D80. What I don't like about it so far:I miss the lens that came with the D80 because it had a wider range (18mm to 135mm); I am a zoom-in buff, so this is a biggy for me. The body is slightly bigger than the D80, and yet, it doesn't feel as solid as the D80 did, in your hands. There is no "auto-focus" option in the "Movie" mode, which is a little disappointing. In live-view mode, it takes a good 2 seconds to auto-focus and click. I don't plan on using live-view a whole lot, so it doesn't bother me personally. I am not sure about this, but I don't think the body is "weatherproof" (or "waterproof"?). I'm disappointed that even at this price, the consumer can't get a decent camera to shoot in the rain; I love capturing images in the rain. What I adore about it so

I came from a Canon EOS XT Rebel... Well let me put it this way, there was nothing rebellious in my photography before I got this camera. I've had beautiful shots but none of them had a WOW!!! effect before...

It was satisfactory to me but not to a $ paying client. A part of my NEW business is taking boat pictures on the ocean where I stand on the deck of my own boat. So I constantly move up or down and sway around but VR helps greatly to produce steady shots in those conditions. As for the MOVIE option of this camera, I have one thing to those nay-sayers; this is a Digital SLR photo camera with "movie" option, of course it is not designed to shoot a motion picture. So don't downgrade this great camera because one of its unusually unique add on option is not capable to do everything. Use it in a simpler manner. For example I put it on a tripod behind me while I am practicing my golf swing. The result was a great HD movie clip! Now I know why I will never be a Golf Pro! Plus, I don'

This is my 3rd upgrade from D70 to D80, now to D90 and it comes with Live View and Movie Mode. Don't buy this because it has a movie mode, even without it, the D90 is a great buy for starters and professionals. The movie mode just comes handy without carrying a camcorder. The D90 make it worth buying, like the LCD screen, live view, larger sensor, dust reduction and extra in-camera editing. The lens that came with the kit is a good all around. But if you can afford 18-200 then just buy that. Battery life is excellent. I like everything on this camera, except for the slow Live View which I decided not to use anyway except on movie mode ofcourse. This is a great buy at reasonable price. You'll be happy with it, guaranteed!!! Read more

I started out in DSLR with the Sony Alpha because I already owned Minolta AF lenses. While the Sony taught me the fundimentals of Digital Photography I felt it was time to go to a better camera. After reading all of the reviews on the newest cameras from Nikon and Canon, it was the Nikon D90 that comes out on top as far as features, price, and quality. I love this camera! Make sure you get a fast SDHC card for capturing fast continuous shooting. It will take standard SD memory as well. After all of my research on pricing and service after the sale I picked Wolf/Ritz Camera once again for my purchase.
They do price matching as well so if you see a legitimate store selling it for less chat with customer service to get a great deal. Read more
