I recently was diagnosed as diabetic, so I've pretty much given up sweets. Cheese has become my dessert, and I have tried several different kinds. I found the Beemster Classic in the local grocery store, and really liked it. Unfortunately, they don't always stock it, so I went online, searching for a reliable source. [...]As much as I like Beemster Classic, this Extra Double Aged Gouda is even better. As others have stated, it has a creamy, almost butterscotch quality. What a PLEAASANT surprise! I tasted it at [...] and very advisedly plunked down $[$]pound for a small section. I love how it pleases the palate with just a small piece. Wow! I thought Beemster Classic was the best gouda I'd ever tasted, and I actually saw this at my local grocery store and had to try. Amazing! I get the butterscotch and pecan stuff stated above, but don't be misled--this is not a sweet cheese in any way. It's very sharp, but you could still eat a block of it in one sitting because it's such an amazingly different flavor. I will definitely be buying this for gifts and myself!! Read more

This cheese is good but its not as good as some of the other aged Dutch cheeses available e.g. Old Amsterdam. Also, this cheese was sold to us in a triangle shape; very odd for a Dutch cheese. I grew up in Amsterdam, and I have never seen a cheese sold like this. Read more
