This unit has a design flaw that makes it inherently short-lived, energy inefficient, and unsuitable for many uses (such as bedrooms). The thermostat is located immediately above the outflow duct for the conditioned (cooled) air. As a result, this unit cycles on and off very frequently.

As the room approaches the temperature desired, the thermostat cools down due to the exiting airflow to a temperature below the temperature of the room and the compressor shuts down. After approximately 30 seconds, the thermostat warms up to room temperature and the compressor comes on again. About 1 minute later, the thermostat cools below room temperature again and the compressor cycles off. This behavior will continue indefinitely, shortening the life of the compressor, reducing the efficiency, and driving anyone who is trying to sleep in the same room crazy. For these reasons, I would not recommend it for anyone, especially those wanting to cool their bedrooms. Read more

When I recieved this unit it would not work. However I am a HVAC repair tech, so I started troubleshooting. Every wire from the timer was disconnected, easy enough to fix. After getting the unit to work I realized I threw away the window adapter (it is a piece of foam). After finding it in the trash I found that to be the best place for it. I recommend going to the hardware an getting some plexiglass to make your own (if you have casment windows this is your only option no matter what portable unit you get). Now the unit is fully installed and working wonderfully. It takes no time for it to cool the 200 square foot room it is in to 66 degrees. If the unit had come working I would have gave it a much better rating. I really hope I am the only one to get a unit in this condition and have not heard of anyone else with a "dead" unit. Read more

I bought this unit to use in my 14 foot enclosed trailer whilst at the track on hot days. Unless I was directly in front of the outlet air, it was very ineffective. This was expected to a certain degree as the trailer is not insulated. I tried it in the bedroom and it did an OK job 14' x 16', but it definitely needed to be drained constantly which really disappointed me. If you are unsure, go for a much higher BTU unit. Read more

My central a/c was going out so I decided to purchase this as a secondary source for cooling to help prolong its life as long as possible. Well two days after I ordered the portbale a/c my central a/c went out! We lived without it for a couple of days which was horrible and the temperature outside was only 80 degrees! We got the koldfront and used it our bedroom so we could sleep, it kept us cool until we got the replacement central a/c that took two weeks. We use it now in our bedroom when we use the treadmill to keep the room extra cool. Read more

This product was much bigger than I expected it to be and much heavier, but it works great!. It Keeps me nice and cold when it is super hot outside. There is a little problem with the the plastic thing you use to change the direction of the air on the outside. It doesn't stay up, you move it up and it falls, so the air is blowing lower than desired, but nonetheless I like it because it keeps me cool. Read more
