Great CF tripod

This is a great tripod. I've been very impressed with the quality. The leg locks work fantastic. I have an old Husky tripod that I used through the 70's. I always liked the twist locks, but could get very frustrated with having to lock and unlock them in the proper order. You can lock/unlock the Gitzo leg sections in any order. Fantastic. All of the ergonomics are well thought out. Expensive, but a quality piece of gear.

My only complaint is the optional spike feet. It appears that the spikes are covered with a rubber covers. To use the spikes, you remove the covers and replace them whe you want to go back to rubber feet. I would much prefer the retractable spikes like Bogen/Manfroto use. Read more

I purchased this product in hopes that I could buy just one tripod that would meet all my needs and expectations. The Gitzo 3530 does not disappoint me. My biggest lens is a 400 f5.6 and this tripod handles it rock solid with a markins M10, even with the column pulled half way up. The column adds a lot of versatility to the tripod. By reversing the column, you can bring your macro equipment right to ground level and the entire set up is rock solid. The ground level set works well also, but I think the tripod is more stable with the just the points of each leg contacting the ground. The G-lock works very well and set up is quick and easy to the point where I wouldn't be afraid to get the 4 leg section model if you need the shorter length. A series 2 gitzo would be great for back packing but I really think the 3 series is better suited to macro and telephoto uses. Highly recommended. If they were a couple hundred dollars less, they would sell a million of them.

I bought this tripod for my Canon 1Ds Mark III and my heavier lenses. It performs as per product discription - very study. Once I got used to the opening of the legs, it's very easy and quick to set it up. I bought the 1 1/2" spike feet, but wish I would have bought the longer ones for more grip in soils. Read more
