We bought the Canon SD880IS mainly for travel as we have and regularly use a Nikon D80 with 18-55, 55-200, and 70-300mm lenses. The SD880IS' screen is big and bright in all light levels and it is obviously much more portable than the D80 with 3 lenses, remote flashes, etc. To test it, we took both cameras to watch the recent Space Shuttle Launch. The photos produced with this camera were almost as good as those produced with the Nikon at the same focal length (about 110mm is full zoom on the SD880IS). That says a lot, considering the SD880IS doesn't have many adjustments beyond the 12 scene modes. All in all, this is a great Point and shoot camera. Read more

AMAZING! DSLR QUALITY! Best P&S Ever!

First off. I LOVE THIS CAMERA!
I bought it to replace my SD-1000 which I loved and took over 6000 pictures with in just over a year.
When it was time to upgrade (mainly because a friend dropped my SD-1000 and the flash never worked again) I researched point and shoots (even non Canon models) for over a month online and offline.
I finally decided, I loved the Canon line and was so happy to get a great deal on the SD-880-IS at Abe's.
I can't say ANYTHING bad about this camera. The wide angle lens, 4X Zoom, amazing picture quality, and solid construction are all pluses in my book!
One thing I really love is the ability to set a long exposure time (up to 16 seconds) In one week, I have taken some amazing pro-quality shots with open exposures that have blown away my professional photographer friends away!
Don't shop around. Just buy this camera and thank yourself later!!! Read more

I purchased this camera specifically to use for an event that we had to attend. I usually use a Nikon D40 and D50 but my wife did not want me carrying around so much equipment. The camera works very well for snapshots and quick pictures. Setup time is fast - usual delay with taking the picture but if you plan and push the shutter release half way down then you can take quick shots easily. The quality of the shots is very good in most lighting. I do miss the ability to set aperature for depth of field. The screen on the back is great - large and easily configured to show the informaiton you want.

Overall I really enjoy using this camera. I keep it in my briefcase all of the time to take shots as I need them. The battery life is very good also. Read more

I feel the same way about Canon Powershots as I do about Macs - its hard to wrong, the product is good and sometimes you pay a little more for quality. As a casual photographer whose primary camera use is taking pics of day trips, outings with friends, etc. I cannot review the manual, or other complicated settings of the camera. What I can tell you is that it is lightweight, easy to use, takes excellent pictures and refreshes between snaps quickly (important for capturing sporting events or other other live-action shots). The video seems to be okay as well for a small point and shoot camera. Downsides - there are a ton of settings that I haven't even begun to explore, there is no viewfinder (which for me isn't a deal breaker, but for some users i know is a concern). i feel i have just begun to explore the many features of this camera and will be able to do a lot with it going forward. Read more

This is a near perfect camera for the advanced photographer wanting a fast shot with professional results. The ordering could not have been better and the sales staff was flawless. While it lacks some of the "bells and whistles" of the more expensive models of the same brand, the picture quality is equivalent. Read more
