This unit can really cool a small-medium room. But it's loud. Really loud. Comically loud. I bought the unit so I didn't have to keep my windows open because I live one block from train tracks. It's way louder than the train, as well as my neighbors' dogs. But since it's a constant noise rather than occasional, I can tune it out. Still, it's silly loud. I have to turn it off to use the phone. It's not as loud on the fan setting, but I bought it for the cooling factor. It has an energy-saver setting, but that just turns it on and off, so I have to keep it running constantly through the night, because if it kicks in from a period of silence, it wakes me up. And I'm not a light sleeper. It's kinda like having my own pet airplane. Read more

This is my second Zenith in two years. I purposely searched for the same model I bought last year because I liked the model. I ordered it for home delivery because every time I went to the store (and I went to several), it was one of the first models sold out.
I really like the well written instructions and the ease in installing it in the window. The energy saver is the best, allowing me to raise the temperature when I leave the house and still have a relatively cool room when I return. I am very happy with this model and its price tag. It does very well with a 12X12 room.
If your air conditioner makes a lot of noise, chances are, the installation may be a little off. Read more

Ok, lets settle the myth about the loud noise...it makes the same noise as any other air conditioner. Not too noisy, not too quiet, it's fine.

If you air conditioner is making lots of noise, you must have dropped in the heat, it was broke before you opened it, you have a low nose tolerance, or and this very very important, you might have too much water build up near the fan and all you need to do is install the valve to release the water. This valve comes with the air conditioner, read the manual.

I expected it to be colder. It's been running at 65 degrees all day, and i'm not cold, i'm comfortable, but far from freezing. I recommend using the BTU calculator on home depot website. My studio was a 7200 BTU recommendation. I went with 6500 BTU's, instead of 8,000 or 10,000, to save money. Still happy overall.

Good point: Air conditioner comes with the two panel extenders for the sides, no need to purchase them. I did and had to return the extra ones I bought.

Easy to assemble, rather

Although it is priced nicely for an air conditioner, it really doesn't get the job done very well. The temperature control feature is a joke - I keep the unit "set" at 70 degrees, but the actual temperature in the room varies widely. The unit does come with a remote, which is unfortunately necessary to manually adjust the temperature yourself throughout the day.

Even with all these setbacks, the main issue is the noise. The fan itself is loud, but when the unit attempts to cool the air, it literally does sound like a garbage truck is coming through your window. I use noise canceling headphones throughout the day, but even then the unit seems loud.

Lastly, it exudes a curious smell, although perhaps washing the filter may fix this. The item is less than 2 weeks old, though, so I feel it is a bit much to have to clean it already.

Quite frankly, there was a reason that LG released this air conditioner under the Zenith name and not their own. It's a waste of your money - spend a little

i purchased this window unit because my central ac went out. had this unit installed in a den just to make through the rest of the summer. installation was easy, except there were a few screws missing. once unit installed turned it on and bam, it did sound like a freight train. my friend discovered that it was the cover over the fan blade. he took the front off the unit and place pop scicle stick in between the top and the bottom and whamo no more freight train. would have taken it back because it WAS to LOUD, but after the stick we decided to keep it. by the way it is wonderful for the price and the size and yes i would recommend with just a few adjustments. manufacturer need to consider a smaller fan cover and that will solve the problem. i have had it now for about three weeks. Read more
