I purchased this item as a Christmas gift for my husband. It will be used when we travel, plus he is an avid fisherman and has been wanting to purchase one for some time to use when he fishes in the larger rivers and lakes. It is a nice, compact size. The screen size is a very nice size and easy to see. It was very easy to set up and downloads and updates were a breeze. Read more

my wife bought this unit after my advise of to her of talking to 2 salesperson and bunch of question they told me it would be ok to be use for my boat. They couldn't be more incorrect. I needed an addition chip, that not even there supervisor was aware that i had to purchase from garmin for over [$]to be able to utilize it as my navigation system for my boat. extremely unhappy that i was not made aware of this addition expense after my wife purchase this unit as my xmas present. Read more

I drive across 5 or 6 states once-a-month. No more lost time driving the "scenic routes." I tried the higher priced next model up; it was no contest. The c550 is the best on the market at any price. It is intuitive and allows for detours on your way to the final destination. Can find a Starbucks, ATM and more in any city. Controls are intuitive and don't need a techie to be set up. Get this now! It is amazing and SO EASY TO START UP AND USE! Durable as well--went flying during car crash and GPS survived! Gives you the speed limits in case you haven't seen a sign in awhile. Kinda bummed it didn't come with USB so we could connect it to the computer right away to get things downloaded on it like Geocache, but we will just go buy one not that big of deal. No more looking up directions on computer and trying to print them out before we leave---total time saver--just imput address and you are on your way Read more

Great little unit, easy to read and control while traveling. Right now I just use the windshield mount and stick it to the face of the tach and go, my primary use is for taking trips on unfamiliar country road on the motorcycle. This unit does have a MOTORCYCLE mode as well as other modes that truly makes it portable.
The factory neglects to include a USB cable that is needed for the registration process and/or updates... however the cable is readily available.

The 2010 update is available now at a cost of $10 for the CD or free for the down load @ 2.2 gigs (Hope you have DSL or Broadband). This update not only updates the GPS unit, but also gives you a map program that allows you to plan trips with your GPS on the computer. Read more
