I have twin sons that are 11 now. We have had the bikes for a year. Very durable and dependable. Both of the boys put in 1000 miles last year at age 10. Gearing is great for climbing and sprinting. They did 6 to 8 rides of 45 miles or more and bikes did great. Average speeds of 15 to 18 mph not a problem. They can't wait to get back on the road. Read more

Bought 2 of these for my twin boys. In 2007 they put on 1000 miles. Have had them for a year and have had no problems. Will be fun to see what they can do this year. The boys just turn 11 and will really be able to test the bikes this year. Bike is a little on the heavy side, but can still climb good and have reached 22 on a short sprint. Read more

Bought one for my son (9 now 10) last year. Was so impressed by the build quality and engineering, I bought the same type, only bigger for me! (The adult Trek 1000, now replaced by another model).

I can't fault this bike, other than the pedals, which we changed at relatively low cost for something easier to clip into. (I changed the pedals on my 1000 also.)

We love to ride out as a family - only problem is that my daughter on a Trek MT220 and my wife on an old, non-Trek, clunker mtn. bike cannot keep up with the "Lance wannabe boys"! A second KDR1000 and an FX7.2 therefore lie in our future.

Our children have taken part in several kids' triathlons over the last two years, both achieving podium finishes incluing a couple of wins, in all but one. The bikes (especially this one) helped hugely. Read more

Perfect for the road going family

I bought this bike for my 9yr old son approximately 4 months ago, we removed the standard clips and went with Shimano SPD SL, which give him great power on hills. He's put on 117.7 miles on it, with an average speed of 14.2 mph, and a max speed of 25.6mph (according to the CatEye Wireless). He has no problem keeping up with me on my road bike. Hills are a bit more difficult, almost like it needs a slightly lower gear for difficult climbs. The only issues we have had at all with this bike is keeping spare tubes around. They are very difficult to find, and are pretty delicate. Other than that, the bike has been perfect... Read more

Realizing how fast my child was growing, I wanted to be a best friend to my daughter, who just turned 10 years old. Although, I have only been riding for 6 month (Own Madone SL 5.2), I thought cycling would be one of the best ways to spend quality time with my child.

As a first practice ride at the local school parking lot, I realized how friendly the shifting & the breaking were. She quickly picked up the technique. Now, we are having best quality time cycling at least 3 days of week.

Although it was very difficult to find 24” road bike, KDR 1000 is the BEST (Both quality & financially). It was harder to find children’s clothing, shoes and accessories. The most difficult item is the color tires. Wish there are more for children.

Over all, the KDR 1000, is the best investments, I have every invested on my child. Read more
