was on vacation when i lost part of a shaving head on a higher model. i like a very close shave, so after i use my electric razor i would use an old fashion to clean things up --- no need with the 8240. no need for my face to adapt since it was use to a norelco rotary already. only fault i found was that the pauch was not large enough to also handle the recharger. for about 2 weeks the shaver was not as close, then it started to cut really close. then i realized that i should use a little water on my head for this shaver. once you do that, the shaver shaves like a razor blade. the advantage though is that this shaver doesn't not damage your skin like a razor. be careful though, this shaver will cut if not used correctly. when i pass my fingers over my head, it is whistle clean. no regrets, forget about that fancy Panasonic shaver. that is garbage. I have a mustache and goatee and find this shaver ideal. Works best for me as a dry shave after a shower. Unlike my earlier 800RX there is NO neck irritation! This razor is greatly improved and gives a good and quiet shave. A stand would be a nice gesture but I'm able to use a stand from a former Norelco. Interesting detail: The ad says it is Made in China, but the razor says Made in Holland. Read more

There are other shavers that may be just a tad closer (Braun), but in my experience, they're not as gentle, and they're harder to clean, and they're more expensive. This is a great way to shave: painless, very quiet. I've had Norelcos for many years (till their batteries wouldn't charge -- usually about 10 years) and this is the best one yet. It's quick, quiet, light weight and fits in hand well. I've shaved with it everymorning since I received it in the mail and I've never been cut or scratched. Great shave everytime. I have not done a through cleaning yet or did any maintenance recommended in the owner's manual, it's too early for it. I spent alot of time window shopping on the net and took my time before I decided on this shaver. I think I made a great choice!
