My wife & I spent 1/2 day researching dishwashers from Consumer Reports and several reviews like these. We were replacing a 15 year old Amana that came with the house. If you are like me you leave no stone unturned, educating yourself on the latest desired features vs the hype. Sifting through all this information is daunting but really necessary, considering how much you end up paying and the expected longevity. The model that came out on top was the Kenmore model 1374. We purchased it over the phone, sight unseen in Dec. 2007 for $599 after a $100 discount. Sears also threw in free delivery and pickup of our old model. I have installed several dishwashers over the years and this was straightforward. Compared with the old Amana where we were forced to pre-clean dishes if we expected them to come out clean, this is night and day. Like others, we were somewhat skeptical of its ability to clean things like heavily baked on casserole ware. We saved up 2 days worth of really crusty dishes

We got this model just over a year ago because of the Consumer Report rating. At first it would wash well, even though there were calcium specs on our glasses. Then there was no water pressure at all to rinse the dishes properly. The water could not reach the inside of the glasses and cups. We could no longer close the lid for the soap dispenser and soap residue would be on top of the dishes and pots closest to the dispenser. We tried different soaps, both liquid and powder. Either kind would cake inside the dispenser rather than mix with water. Read more

I have always sworn by Kenmore. When I decided that I was going to update my kitchen appliances with stainless steel and black coloring this was the dishwasher that I chose.

I hate it! Absolutely despise this thing. The extra cost to have this one was a waste.

I detest every time I have to load it. There is knob on the back of the blade that sticks out and gets stuck on the dishes. Trust me..I bet I have to rearrange the dishes at least 5 times every time.

The space is limited on the bottom. The top where the glass wear sits is just as bad. If you adjust the top drawer to make the glass wear fit then there are additional problems making the rest of the stuff fit on the bottom.

Also, it is supposed to be quiet. It is not! Read more

Bought it based on the CR report and have owned it about a year now, no problems at all... also bought the 5 yr extended warranty because we use it so much... knock on wood... we use it about every 2 days and we have found that the smart wash works the best and the best dishwashing detergent to use with it is palmolive gel dishwashing detergent eco +, versus cascade complete, depending on the water that is being ran through it (hard-soft) can make a difference in its performance... also we prerun (heat)kitchen faucet water for it when it is about to run... we do not use any rinse aid since it works fine with out it... dishes go in dirty with out prewashing and come out clean, if it is overloaded and stacked poorly with dishes, these points can affect the performance (read owners manual)... all in all very pleased... good product... Read more

I was initially attracted to this dishwasher because it got a high rating from Consumer Reports.
But when you pull out the bottom rack to load or unload the dishwasher, the little plastic gadget that holds the back row of tines in place pops off.
In addition to that, the knife holder on the left also pops off.
This is extremely frustrating because without that plastic doohickey to hold up that back row of tines, you lose about 1/3 of the space available for other dishes.
You can repeatedly put the little plastic thing back, but then it pops out again and eventually, since it's just cheap plastic it breaks.
We bought our dishwasher in July and Sears sent out the repairman and he said the solution was to replace the interior tub.
I got it exchanged and stupidly bought the same model again, thinking that it was just a defect with that one.
Got the new one installed a few days ago and same problem just happened all over again.
I was a fool for buying it a second time. Sears will be sending
