I have always heard negative things about big-box store water softeners, but I think the quality has come a long way in the last decade. We have had this water softener for about 4 years, and we have not had a single problem yet. It consumes very little salt and does a great job. All faucets are clean, shower doors always look clear, and soap suds up great. We no longer have to worry about our water heater getting fouled up with scaly junk thanks to this softener. It regenerates on schedule with its timer and seems reliable. The digital controls are convenient. The unit may be expensive, but it's just one of those things you have to man up and spend money on. Read more

I am extremely pleased with this softener overall and look forward to many years of service!
I REALLY hate plumbing work but hate paying plumbers rates even more! After researching various purifiers and water softeners, I finally decided on a whole house carbon filtration system combined with the Sears Kenmore water softener.
Anticipating an ordeal by installing the unit(s) myself, I was pleasantly surprised when everything went together smoothly.
The system is sturdy, quiet, efficient, and has more than enough programming options to satisfy even the most demanding water situations. This system replaced my 10+ yr old Culligan and I'm elated! It works much better with the various settings with just the right softening level that we require (vs the excess we got from our old softener).
The end result is soft water that is more than adequate for dishwashing and laundering yet is not excessively soft as to be undrinkable.
Note to Sears (if anyone from Sears reads these): I only have 2 smal

I have always used products that I have purchased from Sears. The products have all been very dependable, durable and have lived up to my expectations. Sears has always stood behind their products and has been there to answer questions and sell spare parts for the products they sell even if the product is ten years old.
All of these are the reasons that I made the decison to purchase the Water softner from you.
I was a little disappointed with installation charges since the description of the standard installation matched my current intallation pretty closely. when the installer arrived he informed me that there would be an additional charge of $155 because of the work involved. The used two copper flex hoses and six copper fittings on my existing piping. It was disappointing to me because ot the description of the standard installation and the price given in the description. The product is working fine and the workmanship is great. Read more

I can't say whether or not it is durable, but it was easy to install and I did like the features. I had installed one previously in my old home and it is still going since I rented it out 2yrs ago. I like the price and Sears gave me 10% off even though I missed the dead line for the sale. I had also purchased the Kit with the Flex hoses. I did not notice a pressure drop and if there was one it was insignificant. Only other things I needed to buy were the 1" to 3/4" copper fittings and of course the salt pellets. Soldering was not difficult and quicker using the methane (yellow bottle). I think it took me longer to unpack the darn thing than it did to install. (not kidding) All in all I was happy with it considering the price. If you do experience a pressure drop you may try using a 1" flex hose, but very hard to find. I called Ferguson plumbing supply and some of their stores carry them but not worth the wait for me. Good luck Read more

I just replace a 14-yr. old Sears Kenmore Water softener (625.3484500), which we purchased new. We replaced it with an almost identical Kenmore water softener (625.383560). We have been very pleased with the performance and reliability of the old Kenmore unit. The old unit was still working (regenerating) however I think the resin bed was probably 'used up' since it didn't seem to produce soft water for long despite several attempt to clean the resin bed. I considered just replacing the resin bed but decided the old unit had 'paid for itself' and it was time for a new unit. Most websites I checked said that the resin bed life expectancy was about 10yrs. Another really nice part was the install. Since the units were virtually identical, I was able to just unplug the old unit and plug in the new on no plumbing changes. All the fittings were identical. Even the height of the units was the same. Read more
