We have had front loaders for years. We purchased a Maytag Neptune set about 8 years back. We liked it, but it had more then it's share of mechanical problems. When it finally died (well before its time) we wanted another front loader. I investigated all the big names and read many reviews. (By the way... you will always find reviews that say every product is great and every item is bad... read them with an open mind.)
After much research we decided to go with the 4.0 LG front-loader. It had good reviews, and seemed built well. I had noticed that nearly all the front loaders now state they only work on solid surfaces like concrete floors. We thought people just weren't use to front loaders as we have had one for years in main floor laundry rooms. The LG worked great, but it shook the floor incredibly. I rechecked the balance and it was perfect. It vibrated so much that water sometimes leaked out of the catch filter. We thought something must be wrong... we called service. After about 5

While looking for some of the models highly rated by Consumer Reports (which surprisingly had very bad reviews online), I stumbled across this one at the Sears Outlet brand new with all the manuals (for about $250 off ) with some barely imperceptible scratches. I checked it out online and all Samsungs had great reviews so here's another after 69 loads of use.

The machine is installed in the basement on concrete and except for the "noisy" pump and some weird noises as it starts to spin, it's whisper quiet at top speed and tons quieter than the 17 yr old Frigidaire TL it replaced (hopefully it lasts that long). I can barely hear it tumbling if I stick my head in the basement door. It cleans extremely well, is gentle on clothes and spins dry enough that I can run a 51 min normal cycle which times perfectly with my 7 year old Whirlpool Gold dryer set on the next to hottest (casual) setting. The longer cycle is a moot point since I'm not waiting for the dryer AND our clothes are now clean.

I bought the Samsung after my 16 year old Kenmore toploader lost its dial and it's youth. We first went for the LG and the sales girl talked us out of it when she found out our washer would have a basement below . . . too much vibration. We then got the Cabrio because our fit was tight, but the same sales girl warned there had been problems with the digital panel and wouldn't recommend it without the service plan. We then read up on the Samsung when we got home and switched it for the same price as the Cabrio. We liked the energy efficiency as well as the Silvercare which sterilizes with ions which we read about on Samsung's website.
Although Consumer Reports says the EPA is questioning this technology, I read enough reports to think the danger is overblown, and if it is somehow proven environmentally unfriendly, I can always quit using it. I mainly want it for cold water washing of delicates, small rugs, etc. that can't be washed in warm water.

I also liked the warranty . . . better

I obsessed for days over which front loader to buy after my fisher paykel blew the main control board (2nd time) and it would cost over 350 to fix. I liked the top loading but eco friendly fisher paykel but constantly had to replace diverter valves and water pumps myself since it is difficult to find a good service technician for that machine. The worst part was any time the pump went out it could fry the main panel. When that happened this time enough was enough. It did give me 6 years of 10-15 loads a week. But I had to start replacing diverter valves 3 years in (2), and water pumps 4 years in (2).
I was really torn between this an the LG Tromm but had heard a lot of mold issues with the LG. I did like the fact that the LG had the add extra water feature and was
convinced that I would not be happy with the automatic water levels that front loaders offer. The silvercare option and the fear of mold led me to give the Samsung a shot and I am glad I did. I had some rather disgusting laun

Can you be in love with a washing machine? This might be as close as it gets. We ranch, and it is VERY dirty work, sometimes we have to change jeans 2x or more times per day to help keep the house/furniture clean. We replaced a 21 year old top-loader Kenmore with the Samsung 4.0 VRT 328, and sprang for the matching dryer. Both are the tops at getting clothes clean and dry, and they are super-efficient as well. I can change the dryer cycle to a lower heat setting, because that works even more efficiently at drying the clothes, even jeans, no 'baking' them dry as with the old dryer. The washing machine is quiet, spins the clothes damp-dry, I can finally load in loads twice as large as for the old washer(means half as many trips to the laundry room), yet it uses less water to get the clothes very clean. The VRT technology keeps the washing machine quiet, it is on linoleum, not on a concrete floor. We do not use the Silvercare sanitizing system, due to possibly pollution of our ground
