for a 3 yr old its a perfect point and shoot in the daylight outside lol. I bought it for a 4yr old who is aware of digital cams lol so it was a poor choice in camera on my behalf. its tiny, and you need excessive light to take pictures indoors. the program that came with it I had to research the drivers b/c my computer could not see the camera drivers so I had to get them from elsewhere. (if I were not computer lit. I would have def returned it for something else) and the software that came with it I have no words for. for our generation of children today even if they are 3 to 6 yrs old are more advanced than this camera gives credit. I would not suggest you get this for any child that is well advanced in gaming and technology as my children are. they know the difference between quality cameras and pretend point and press button lol. I bought this for my daughter's 7 year old birthday. She took several pictures during her birthday party. Afterwards we downloaded the pictures on the computer to only find out that every indoor picture was completely black and that the outdoor pictures were blurry. I didn't expect a high quality camera since it was a kid's camera and relatively inexpensive but I at least expected that there would be a picture to look at on the computer screen. We bought this for my daughter for her 7th b-day (after listening to her beg for it for months). It was adorable and fun, easy to hook up to the computer and came with some fun software. But... there is no flash on this little gem - every single picture she took came out too dark to see.
