Finally cool in Cali!

This unit actually lives up to it's potential. So many units say they will cool a 400sq foot room & your lucky if it cools 200. This unit works great! I have it in the front area of my home. This area ia about 400sq feet & includes the kitchen. The room has strong exposure to the sun in the afternoon & is close to asphalt so it gets VERY hot. This unit has managed to keep it below 76 degrees even when I have the oven on. If you don't mind a little noise it is the best deal for the capacity & price without having to get special wiring put in. Read more

We live in Phoenix AZ, and the other day when it hit 114 with a dewpoint of about 63, this a/c unit did pretty well at keeping a large room at about 88 degrees with very little humidity. You can only expect so much from any portable piece of equipment in the middle of the day, in the middle of the summer, in the middle of the desert. However on days not sooo challenging this unit is wonderful, instant dehumidification is the best feature, I think. It keeps a pretty large room comfortable around 80, when outside is around 100 or more. Yes, we did have to wrap exhaust hose like one of the other reviewers stated, We used a light fleece sleeping bag. Plus another fan in the room to evenly distribute the cooler air. Would definitely buy another, and we are looking forward to the winter (not only to cool down), but to test the heating capabilities. Read more

The operating choices are very usable and easy to understand. I am using on 3rd floor (hot!) and it's cooling a 500 sq. ft area adequately. A nice bonus is the dehumidifier. It will automatically cycle from cooling to removing excess water (you can here the water dropping inside the ac and immediately feel the difference). The oscillating panels can be "aimed" at a specific direction by quickly turning off the oscilating mode when the panels are about to move to the angle you want. Lots of options. As usual, the main complaint is that on ALL portable ac's the exhaust hose gets hot, thus radiating heat where you don't want it. My solution: wrap a long 100% wool scarf around it - or add some good insulating material from a hardware store. Read more

I purchased this air conditioner for my daughter's 420 sq ft. studio. I wanted to buy what I thought was the best available. I went to visit her this past weekend and was miserable because of the heat. The unit didn't begin to cool the area. Sometimes I felt no cool air coming out at all. I feel like I have purchased a [$] fan instead of a top notch air conditioner. We called the company and basically they said it is only expected to cool as much as 10 degrees and now it is a case of "buyer remorse". They also said that the 500 sq ft cooling range was awarded by the retailers not Edgestar."Buyers Remorse".....oh yeah!!! Read more

Great unit - buying a second one to take the place of a Delonghi PAC that just burned out after only a couple months. We usually run two units in our server room. Our ES model has been running for about 4 months non-stop and is now taking on the load of both units without a problem. This second may be used as a back-up if the first can keep up the pace. Good, powerful product. Read more
