I did compare it to similar models from Epson, Canon and HP, but in all fairness, those were inkjet models. I like the dye-sub quality and to me, it very closely resembles a continuous tone print from a high-quality C-41 lab.Works well as a stand-alone or with my computer, though I've found I use it mostly as a stand-alone printer. Once you get used to the LCD controller and the steps, it's pretty easy and a lot of fun to make prints. This little printer has saved me numerous trips to the digital kiosk; I can easily make hi-quality prints just about whenever I want. The multiple memory card slots are also a great feature [pictbridge is also available]. When using your computer as the controller, you will have to experiment with color balance because my initial set of prints came out very warm.
