Thermostat will not cycle off.

I set the thermostat at 55 for wintertime heating of my garage. The thermostat will not cycle off. The lowest I can keep it is about 65-68 degrees. It is very expensive to run at that temperature, using it all the time (I have plants I want to keep at a low temperature and paint that I do not want to freeze). It doubled my electric bill!!! I called the approved repairman who came and diddled with the thermostat, but that did nothing. I am very unhappy with this product and the manufacturer has no solution to the problem. Read more

I live on Tampa Bay, I purchased the Amana 18,000 BTU Heat Pump Room Air Conditioner with Multi-Directional Airflow for my Florida room. I could have went with a 16,000 BTU but this one works fine. Additionally we do have some cool mornings in the winter so I went with a heat pump, I have a couple of things that I would of changed, this model didn't ofer a remote control, I installed the unit above a sliding door and have found it difficult to make manual changes. The multi directional air flow should have been split. Other than that it works very well. We receive the afternoon sun, with this unit we are able to keep the room at 72 with no problem. The room is 14 X 24 the West wall is all insulated glass windows and 10 ft. high ceilings. We purchased this unit last Month and haven't had a chance to use the heat pump as the temp has been in the high 80s and low 90s. Read more

So far, so good. Looking forward to a lasting performance. The only thing the AC/heat lacks is an automatic on/off temp control ie setting the control to say 75 degrees and when the temp is 75 or hotter the ac comes on and when it is below 75 the heat pump comes on. Maybe that's asking a bit much for just a wall unit, but hey, why not? This unit went into our garage where the kids will do their science projects and other projects.
I have recommended you to an acquaintance who asked where I got this unit. Hope you will do right by him. Read more

Pricey: Otherwise, the product fits well enough into the old exiting Amana through the wall A/C Htg unit. I would be interested in the same dimensions A/C only product that runs on 220V at a less expensive cost. This unit works much better than my old one. I had to use space heaters through most of the winter and my electric bills went through the roof.Hopefully this model will be even more efficient than my old unit when it saw better days. Read more
