You would think the Perils of Pauline were a walk in the park if I had the time to tell you the story of how I arrived at Crucial. Suffice it to say they had the right product at the right price [...] The memory sticks plugged right in and my Dell recognized every byte of that 2 GB on the first pass. Since there installation my computer has pretty much stayed on 24/7 and I have had no compatibility issues or any strange occurrences. The difference in performance has allowed me to do things in 1/3 the time it took with the old configuration. My (most?)Dell may be persnickety but when you feed it what it wants it gives you all it has. I use VOIP and with the old configuration it was almost impossible to talk and do anything else at the same time. Now I can talk, type and surf the web while IM-ing a friend. 15 yr computer tech veteran: Tried generic and non-Crucial RAM in a finnicky Dell. Comp wouldn't even accept the generic and had BSoD, reboots and other errors with the non-Crucial brand. Crucial replacement works great, but even going from 768 MB to 2 GB (system's max) did not show *much* improvement. And I've already replaced the 5400rpm drive with a nice 7200rpm with 16 MB cache. Just a slow computer. :( Comp supports 3200 and didn't see that available until after the 2700 arrived. :( Read more

I have relied on Crucial several times to upgrade the RAM in computers I use. They have a thorough web application that makes it easy to identify the right DRAM set to purchase. For instance, they seem to have every Dell computer that has ever been manufactured in their list. Once that is done, the hard part is over. When the new DRAM modules arrive, it's a five minute job. Modern motherboards have thumb levers to pop the old part out and latch the replacement in. These parts are "keyed" so it's impossible to fit the module backwards. Reboot your computer and let Microsoft take it from there. Don't be afraid to try this yourself. Just touch your hands to something that is grounded to dissipate any static charge before handling the Crucial DRAM modules. Crucial makes it easy to upgrade your computer! Read more
