Great beginner scope. I won this at a raffle and have enjoyed it everyday, I live in AZ so winter month is great stargazing weather. Scope is easy to set up, less than 10 minutes, and tons of fun for family with kids.
Eyepieces included are good for moon viewing and decent for deep space. invest in other eyepieces. The finder scope is terrible. Mine does not focus but does a OK job of getting you in the area. The mount is solid and light weight and great for traveling. The kids and I truly enjoy this scope and I will soon be upgrading and hey for the money you can't go wrong. Read more

Given the cheap scope I started astronomy with years ago, this is a great step up on a budget. For the money, no complaints. But I am experienced and have quite a knack for operating a manual scope and knowledge of astronomy. The software alone makes this package killer! Once again, if you know how to use such things. we are in a very unordinary time from date of this post to see venus and jupiter. so I set up the included p.c. sky tracker, my compass. found the planets in my back yard. no problem. first time use, less than 30 minutes with stock scope and 20mm. eyepiece with provided 3x barlow. I had resolved Jupiter, all 4 of its moons. and (planetary cloud bands (faintly). and Venus phase atmnoshere trails with the 4mm. and 3x. all in only fair skies with light pollution! so i think with some accessory upgrades/eyepieces. the sky will be the limit! cant wait! but this isnt to discourage any novice. if u got more $. then spend more $. if not. then we do the best we can with what we go

I've had the scope for about 2 weeks...and I am very satisfied with what I got for the price.

The scope has decent light-gathering capacity (329x) and has proven sufficient for viewing deep space objects such as the Orion and Rosette nebulae.

Decent German EQ mount, a little shaky when focusing, but quickly stabilizes. Finder scope is underwhelming, but gets the job done. The included 20mm Kellner lense is pretty useful, but the 4mm SR lense is barely adequate. The 3x barlow is ok at low power, but there is significant chromatic aberration and smearing at high power.

I think this is a good starter scope... the beginner will get a lot out of this scope, enough to keep him or her going for a year or two. You'll want to purchase some nicer eyepieces and a higher quality barlow, but those are good investments for any telescope owner. Read more

This is my first telescope and I have used it for about a year and a half now. There is a lot of light pollution where I live so I have only been able to see star clusters, binaries, and planets. If you plan to use this in an urban area you will be limited in what you can see.

There are several problems listed in the other reviews which I found to be true. Poor eyepieces, unstable stand, and loose finder scope mount.

The stand can be fixed by tightening the wing nuts at the top of the legs and the bolts which hold the tray. The gears for the right ascension control also had a lot of excess travel. The worm gear can be adjusted so that it has a tighter fit with the main gear (take the tube and counter weights off first). Be careful not to over tighten in either case or the legs will stick and the right ascension control will be unusable.

The finder scope mount can be fixed a variety of ways (see other reviews). I used some outdoor double sided mounting tape around the ba

Picked this one up late December for a starter scope. Had about a month to play with it, and so far so good.

First off, this scope is great for the price. It has the largest aperture I've seen in the price range, The EQ mount works fine for casual observation... I have no problems tracking once I have my alignment set. Overall, construction quality seems solid. I've had some great views of the Orion nebula, crab nebula, mars, venus, Comet tuttle 8p, andromeda galaxy, and the moon. Light gathering power is good enough that I was able to get fairly clear images from within Orlando city limits.

Downsides: Finder scope is not that great, but will serve its purpose. I just sprung for a reflex finder and a 6x30 w/diagonal as a replacement. Reflex finder is supposed to be the easiest to use, probably a good investment for the beginner. Included optics will get you there, but the 4mm SR eyepiece is just this side of useless. The included 20mm Kellner does the trick though. Most a
