I got this necklace 5 years ago for my birthday from my father and I literally wear it every day except during very formal occasions. It's about the size of a nickel, which actually makes it a great size to wear all the time. After a few years, it gets hard to polish the silver in the little grove in the silver mount. The glass hasn't scratched in this amount of time, either (and I've had some tough jobs). It's a great conversation piece that always gets compliments from people who haven't seen it before. The only downside on mine, is that you have to shake it to break up the big air into lots of tiny ones in order for it to point north. Otherwise, it points whatever direction you want it to. I have used it for general directions before (for example: lost in the car and need to know if I'm headed East or West and it's Mid-day). All-in-all, I love this necklace! My friends and family don't buy any necklaces for me now because they know I won't take this one off to wear a new one. Read more

I absolutely adore this necklace - wanted it for like a year, and finally got it for a gift. I just wish it didn't tarnish so easily and be so hard to remove - that is by far my biggest complaint. Loved this necklace! Well, I love the compass pendant, the actual necklace, not so much. I was worried after reading some reviews that my compass would not function properly as a compass, due to size or air bubbles. I am happy to say my compass has no functioning problems! No air bubbles, and it points to what I'm pretty sure is North every time! The chain is a different story. It is a long, sterling keyring chain essentially. And when I tried to open it the first time, the clasp part that holds the little ball in place totally bent in half. No matter though, I'll use a different chain. I didn't buy it for the chain. I think the compass was still worth the money for its size, function and quality. I can't wait to get lost in the woods! Read more

The only drawback to this piece is the price. It is exactly as shown in the photo. The compass is small, but anything bigger would be clunky. The chain is sterling silver, not a cheap ball chain. Craftsmanship of the pendant is very good with a professional look (it does not look like a homemade fleamarket craft item). Is it worth [$] I won't know for sure until it either becomes a staple that I wear every day, or it is something that ends up stored in my jewelry box. For now, I'm happy with the purchase. I was looking for a compass necklace for my daughter graduating from high school and her 6 BFF's. Due to the price of this necklace, I only bought one for my daughter. It is very cute, but it is tiny. Other people mentioned that, but the compass itself is probably smaller than a dime, w/silver case around it about nickle size. It's SMALL. My compass seems to work, but again it's so small it's hard to read. In this case, the idea is better than the product. I would not buy another. Read more
