Awesome multifunctional GPS

There are lots of cool things about this GPS unit! A few of my favorites are that you can remove all of the languages and accents that you don't want, which will free up disk space for MP3s. I actually freed up about 300MB of space by removing (backed them up on my computer) all non-English languages and the male voices for American, Australian, and British English. (Karen from Australia is my favorite text to speech (TTS) voice. Though I do switch between Karen and Jill(American English)) So, I play MP3 music files through my car stereo, via the 3.5mm (stereo headphone) audio out jack on the GPS unit. The built in speakers work well, but playing through the cars audio system is better. When it's time to turn or even when the road forks or if the exit is on the right or left, the music stops, the instructions are given, then the music resumes. The same is true when using the phone via Bluetooth. Note: phone calls take priority over navigation prompting. So, if you are talking

Great little unit

Pros: User friendly. Take it out of the box, plug it in the outlet and you are ready to go. Same bells and whistle as higher-end units. Took it on a 600 mile trip the first weekend. It never missed a beat. No longer need the wife for directions. May never take her on another trip. HaHa.Cons: After our first trip, I registered the unit at garmin.com which entitles you to the free 2009 Maps download. Download process was over two hours. Garmin informs you of the long download before you do it but I wanted the latest maps. The 3.5" screen is small but difinitely readable. Besides, who needs a screen anyway. This things gives you play-by-play instructions so you do not need to take your eyes off the road.Overall: I would not hesistate buyin g this unit for the money [$] Read more

Great unit. Works flawlessly straight out of the box. The addition of features like MP3 player and Bluetooth enabled hands-free calling, including phone book and call waiting, makes it an unbeatable deal when on sale. Directions and maps are very accurate and the self-adjustable screen brightness makes it very easy to read. File/song downloading and especially map update is a bit slow, but from what I have seen that goes for all GPS's.
If you need good GPS with accurate directions, don't hesitate...just buy it. Bluetooth phone features and built-in MP3 player should be icing on the cake. Read more

I purchased two of these and they are wonderful. They will work straight out the box with little set up time. I registered the units with no problems on 7-30-08. Garmin still has support for these units. When I registered, it updated the firmware then said I need to update my map. They will give you a free update to download or you can order the map on a cd for shipping charges. I chose to download using a broadband connection, it took over an hour. I did have one problem after the download when trying to install the map. I called support (took about 30 minutes to reach a live tech). They were very helpful and talked me through my problem. I was told if I had any other issues to email him and he would call me back, so I would not need to hold like before. Be prepared to wait for the download and installation, as for it will take over 2 hours to complete. I had no trouble when setting up my cell. It detected the phone in a matter of seconds. I have Verizon service. I road

As with other Garmin GPS's that I've used, the interface is very intuitive and easy to navigate. The LCD screen is touch-sensitive and all of the controls are laid out in a logical pattern with simple icons and bright (but not overwhelming) colors. It does everything you'd expect a GPS to do; it will create a route by speed ("fastest route") or distance ("shortest route"), allow you to save your favorite locations, etc. One of my favorite GPS features is the ability to make detours on-the-fly, and the Garmin makes this easy. Stuck in highway traffic? Touch DETOUR and it will plot a new course off the highway. I can't tell you how many times this has saved hours of potential sitting-in-traffic time. (The c550 is even better as it has the FM traffic receiver. If you drive through a supported area, the GPS will *AUTOMATICALLY* reroute you around traffic, construction detours, etc.)

The screen remains bright and clear even in direct sunlight. It has a built-in battery that's good for a
