I love the convection oven in both the microwave & oven - its wonderful. The browning element in the microwave works great. However, I have had several problems with this appliance. When it was delivered, a very noticeable hand print (like someone had placed it there on purpose) was in-between the 2 sheets of glass on the oven door. Service had to come out to clean it. Also, the popcorn button on the microwave does not work correctly - only half of the popcorn will pop. If I use the regular high power button (10), all the popcorn will pop correctly. Don't ever forget to remove the racks in the oven when using the self-cleaning cycle. Otherwise, the chrome finish on the racks will immediately discolor and look horrible. Just a couple months after the appliance was 1 year old (out of warranty), the outside glass on the microwave completely cracked for no reason - the microwave had not been used for over 5 hours. I love the look and the features are amazing - a few touches and it'll steam vegetables, reheat a meal, etc... the microwave + convection makes it almost like having a double oven without the loss of space. Only issue is it seems to take a little longer than our last oven to heat up and the microwave keeps beeping until you remove your food and has condensation in the door/window they are replacing. I bought this combo oven because of all the good reviews from last year. I love the convection oven part, but please be aware that the 2008 model has a new "feature" in the microwave part according to Kitchenaid. The microwave will go into a mandatory "cool down" period of 5 minutes after you microwave for any more than three minutes as soon as you open the oven door. I refer to this as a mandatory "time out". This is very inconvenient if you are trying to microwave a frozen dinner. After you open the door to stir the item, the microwave wants to take a "timeout". Kitchenaid insists this is a new "feature" for the 2008 model, but it must not be one they are very proud of because the sales person did not know about it;the sales manager did not know about it; it is not listed in the use and care manual that came with the oven; and as of July 31, 2008, it was not even on Kithchenaid's own website for this product. We had this oven installed on December 1st 2008. It lasted 4 weeks before the magnatron and inverter went. We called kitchenaid to get the appliance fixed, who sent a repair technician who diagnosed the problem but couldn't fix it. Kitchenaid then sent ANOTHER technician who then had to re-diagnose the problem. The second technician has been a nightmare since, unable to order correct parts and fix the problem at all. To this date, the oven has been broken for 4 weeks with no sign of it getting fixed anytime soon. Do yourself a favor and get a GE appliance. Read more
