Great Entry Level Canoe!

You really can't beat the Pelican Navigator as a low cost way to get into canoeing. It's extremely affordable, lightweight, and quite stable in the water. It's light enough to handle by myself, though a pivoting canoe loader makes loading it on the roof of my car much easier. It does scratch and gouge fairly easily, but I'm sure alot of boats made of the same material have that problem. They say the Navigator is not intended for whitewater use, but I find it's ideal for recreational use on calm lakes and slow-moving rivers. About my only other complaint is that I periodically have to reposition the keelson bar, as it will shift a couple of inches toward one end of the canoe or the other, probably shifting during my handling while loading and unloading it. But I'm very thankful for that same bar, as it adds great rigidity to the boat, and totally eliminates the possibility of any "oilcanning". All in all, I love my Navigator. If your canoe budget is relatively low like mine was

I'll be back once I get it in the water, but this boat was so difficult to but together, I had to mention something.

The bolts and pieces are substandard and I had to buy new ones to make it work. The gunnel is soft and the bolts for the handles needed outside washers for assembly, as they pulled through with out washers.

If you get it assembled, I would double check the bolts and nuts to ensure everythings ok.

I researched for quite sometime and went with this canoe. It is good for one person with room for two. It holds a max weight of 650 pounds, so there's enough room and weight for a weekend trip.

It's light. Websites state it's 57 pounds. The info card that came with the canoe stated 54 pounds.

Where I purchased this canoe, they obviously dragged it acrossed the cement as the first layer of the canoe was missing in an area. My fingernail left marks. It is pretty soft. I am going to put on a kevlar keel protector to protection.

I'll be back when I get it o

Found the canoe to be light weight enough that my wife with short arms is able to help put it on the truck with my help.....The canoe tracks well and is roomy enough for gear and a small ice chest.. The bottom scratches very, very, easy. I use Z-21 on the body after each use.
Thanks for a quality product.
