I gave this line trimmer 5 stars because I believe it deserves it, although for me it is a love-hate relationship. However, all my complaints stem from matters of preference and I feel that this should not take away from the score since the trimmer really is a fine machine and my opinions will not always agree with others. For the benefit of some, I will share my opinions such as they are. First let me say that I have been doing yard work for about 40 years. As a young boy my first job was that of mowing neighborhood yards even before line trimmers existed. Being the techno-geek that I am, I was probably one of the first to purchase a line trimmer when they oringinally came out. My quest now was to replace a aging trimmer with one of commercial quality at a good price and this one seemed to fit the bill. Originally I really wanted the Husqvarna model 79100 with the bump-line feed head which Sears also sells. I was all ready to buy it until I went to check out; shipping was going to cos

I can tell that this craftsman is a re-badged 28cc Husqvarna, but even better. It has the better craftsman head and longer shaft, but the same engine. This full crank trimmer started in 2 pulls out of the box, and engine idles smoothly unlike most 2-cycles. The throttle response is almost instant. Very smooth engine and gear box drive at the cutting end, unlike my last Troy-Bilt. They engine is very powerful and provides more torque than the 21-22cc engines on the more expensive trimmers. I also like the metal base under the engine to prevent it from scraping on the cement if you set it down and it prevents damaging the gas tank. Engine is smoother than the 4-cycles and provides better lubrication when you are tilting it, constantly varying throttle, using it for longer time periods, ect. 2 cycle engines like this are better for handheld trimmers for that reason and they are lighter and provide more horsepower. Pollution? Come on, its a 28cc engine being used about twice a week. Not a

I read prior reviews and then went to Sears to look at this unit & possibly buy since it was made by Husqvarna. While at store, I saw the same unit leaning against the counter, box open, tank full of gas, and returned by another customer. I had second thoughts but bought a new unit anyway. My unit now joins this other return. Starts up okay, but won't rev past high idle speed and then bogs & dies when throttle is opened. It's a lemon, or at least mine & the other unit was. Went out & purchased a real professional model at double the price, and it runs flawlessly, tankful after tankful Sometimes you get what you pay for. Luckily, Sears is customer oriented and has a very good return policy. In this case, the bitterness of poor quality lingers long after the sweatness of low cost is forgotten. Read more

I bouught this trimmer , because I thought being Craftsman Professional model it was top of the line . I don't mind paying the money as long as I get good service out of the product . The first trimmer I bought , I started it up the first time . I had a very loud knock , coming from the engine . So I took it back to Sears and returned with no problems . Instead of the refund , I decided to give this model another try . First time I used it , no problems . The second time I went to use it , the pull cord broke when I went to start it . So I took it back to Sears , for a full cash refund . I don't mind paying the price , as long as I get the quality . I would not recommend this NON Professional model to anyone . Read more
