After 12 years with my first Proform treadmill, I decided it was time to retire it and get a new one. Despite the criticisms of Proform being a "Budget equipment mine served me well. So began the search for a replacement. I read possibly every user review on treadmills on the web, spending countless hours doing so.

Where to buy: I considered buying a Proform or NordicTrack directly from their websites. Clearly I could save some money and get free shipping as well. I was nervous because my first treadmill was under a Sears maintenance agreement and I did use it a few times, mostly for wear and tear issues. Sears was always responsive and if I needed a part, they usually had it on the truck. I was worried what it would be like dealing with Proform directly. I experimented by calling them as if I had a treadmill needing service. I found myself waiting in queue a LONG time and they do not have a 24hr number. So I told the rep I need service on my treadmill that is in warranty. He said I w

So I am sure if you are reading the reviews before you buy you are like I was before I bought this treadmill. I decided to get a new one after my ProForm 380i started showing signs of wear after over 5 years of working great! I check out many models and many manufacturers and after reading many reviews I was very confused as to what to buy. I read on the web that Proforms are "budget" machines made more for "walking" and not jogging or running. Let me tell you experience:I am 6'2 230lbs and I love to run. I had a ProForm 380i which is a smaller treadmill and only has a 2.25 HP motor (not CHP) I average about 5 miles per run at around 6mph. The 380i is smaller and less powerful than the XP Trainer and that one did the job just fine!Onto the Proform XP TRainer.... Amazing! Many people complained that is was difficult to put together. I didn't find it very hard if you can follow the directions. It is a bit heavy however I managed to bring it in my house and install it alone but I had the

We have been researching treadmills for a few months. We decided on the Proform 580 because we had learned in the process that Nordic Track went bankrupt and was told it is very difficult to get a hold of a representative or even a repairman to come out and service or fix one of their machines. We are very happy with our purchase. My kids have been using the machine since we purchased it a month ago along with myself. They run on the machine everyday and I use it daily too. Very easy to put together, very easy to use, very quiet and the incline goes up quickly. We would definately purchases another one in the future. Did take out the 3 year service plan. Read more

We have had our ProForm Treadmill for over a month now, and we use it daily...and LOVE it!

Let me start off by telling that the treadmill is quite heavy, so make sure you have help to pick it up from the store and get it home. It was quite easy to put together, about 1 1/2 hours for assembly. Just read throu ghte instruction first, and then you are ready to assemble. It doesn't require any fancy tools at all, and instructions are easy to follow.

The treadmill has a wide path that is easy to walk/jog on. We have used the preset options and manual setting - both are easy to use and self explanitory. It is a sturdy piece of equipment besides the arms. The arms with jiggle about while you are walking/jogging on it, but it doesn't bother me since I don't hold them.

The speaker system is very nice too. Good is good, and it is easy to access your i-pod while workouting.

So far our experience has been nothing bu positive. As I mentioned earlier we use it daoly for running and we love it. I

I just finished assembling my ProForm XP Trainer 580. I'm impressed with the quality and how sturdy this treadmill is. My first workout was great. The machine is quiet and it's really nice to be able to listen to my Sansa MP3 player while I workout using the built in speaker system. The speakers don't have much bass, but they are very crisp and clear. One thing that I really like about this treadmill is that it has an LED display. LED's are so much brighter and easier to read than the LCD screens that most other treadmills have.
I will update this review after I give the 580 a few weeks of use. Read more
