I did a lot of research on this bad boy before purchasing it.As there are a lot of these Core I7's on the market now. Many of them are over priced(IMHO) And choosing the right combination of value and power can be frustrating and confusing.

Buy this machine. You will not be disappointed. Nor will you spend time agonizing on whether you should have spent more money on more features. The upgrade path is simple and affordable and best of all, if you can change a tire, you can do it all yourself.

This will however, for the serious gamer need a couple of upgrades:

1. PSU: 500w for heavy power gaming is not sufficient. Heat, crashing etc, are all likely and you'll reduce the life of your machine. Get a 650w minimum replacement power supply unit.
It's not a difficult install, just take your time and tag all your connections if you are new at it so you don't have any issues.

2. RAM Again 3gb for yesterdays gamer was excellent. For today's gamer not so much. And for tomorrow... Well lets st

        wow where do i start.

this was the last unit in my local bestbuy, i got it asap when they received it, (good thing all employees were too busy to notice it)

i was in the mood of making a gaming rig till i saw this monster, and changed my mind, first and most importantly, it uses the new intel motherboard that supports up to 4 G-cards among other things, it uses the new 8 core CPU 'Nehalem' (maybe thats not how you spell it) the I7 eats any and all AMD processors and the old quad cores. it is up to 50% faster at video encoding and 12 faster in regular processing (i have not seen it go above 40% no matter what i do, play or instal) ...(yet) and to top it off it has the X-fi gamer sound card on-board in the MOBO, am not into overclocking but, with a better heatsink than what they give you, you can pull out up to 4GH (LCD is a must tho)

only problem is the mouse and is a basic piece of junk (i got the g5 logitec, pure awesomeness) and about to get a better key board soon, prolly the g11

        I hate to give this computer a bad rating, but I have to. You see, although the i7 920 is great, and the 4850 is great, and a lot of this computer was well thought out, it has a problem that caused me to return it.

Something causes Windows Explorer to constantly refresh when you open it. This is easy to see, the busy icon on the cursor continuously flashes when you're viewing all of the drives. This causes a problem when you try to use the drop down box in Vista to select anything, as the box will close from being refreshed.

The other thing that is probably related is that this computer, while idle, was averaging 6-8% processor usage. That's nuts. Something this powerful should be in the 0-2% range when nothing is running. I believe this is really the same problem as above, probably some device driver gone crazy which is eating up system resources.

I did all I could to try to figure this error out, but I was not able to. I uninstalled device drivers, anti virus software, disabled ha

        I was thinking about buiding a custom PC for awhile, until i realized how much the cost of a Store Bought PC actually was. I remember when a machine just 2 years ago that was half the specs of the FX6800 would have easily been twice the price. Here are a few things you may find interesting with this Computer that arn't listed on the Best Buy Tags, or the Website Spec list

Intel i7 CPU detects 8 cores - Go into Control Panel, then system, then Device manager. Expand the CPU Tab, and BOOM.... 8 Cores of Speedy Goodness. Here is a good way to describe how a CPU works, and why mulitiple cores are a better Idea... think of a single Core CPU as typing with one finger... Even if you have a really really fast CPU, your only going to hit one key at a time... A Dual Core is like typing with two fingers...making the ability to type long paragraphs that much faster.... Quad core is like typing with 4 fingers, and 8 cores would be like typing with both hands "minus the thumb for the space bar of c

        <p>
        Intel's new core i7 processors came out on November 17th and they have redefined performance in the desktop area. For processors with similar speeds clock for clock (comparing with say a Q9400 that runs at 2.66) expect to see moderately better performance (think 5-10%) than the core 2 quad series in most applications, but double the performance in things like video encoding.

The HD 4850 is a great video card don't listen to any of these other people. It can play almost every new video game with maximum settings with great framerates at the standard 22" widescreen 16:10 resolution of 1680 by 1050 with the notable exception of Crysis (which even the best video card on the market, the HD 4870X2, can't max out). Besides that ATI releases driver patches monthly and the HD 4850 allows the video AND audio to be sent along a HDMI cable (with a converter). Right now none of Nvidia's cards can do this as seemlessly.

The motherboard in this system would cost over 200 dollars alone (an X58 mothe
