My son got this for his 4th birthday. He enjoyed playing with it, but need our assistance. Now, at 5.5, he absolutely loves it. He is able to play independently for hours. The track allows him to be creative and keeps him busy. This is a great toy for children who love building things! Read more

Don't let my 4 stars deter!! This is the coolest toy ever! With a handful more marbles it would be perfect! There are a bunch of ways to set it up. You can make it as simple or complex as you want. My son love marbles and played with them on a train track but no more!! Although his regular marbles don't fit, the colorful ones that came with it are just as fun. I am on my way to the store to get one for a my son's buddy for his 4th birthday! Read more

My 3 year old son and my 4 year old daughter absolutely love this toy. It lives in my son's room and he plays with it for hours. I don't understand the review that said their 7 year old couldn't put it together; much less the one that said the Dad couldn't put it together, because my kids spend hours playing with this toy. You must remember that building this manipulative through problem solving is an acquired skill. The kids will start small and build bigger as they figure it out. Throwing it away or returning it to the store only teaches your children to give up; not to try harder and be persistent.

Now I'll give you that one of my 's' pieces was warped, but the sturdiness of the tripod shape pulls it back into shape. Sure, the loop tends to drop or stop the balls, but that is part of problem solving. A few of the balls can stop in course, but that is part of the ‘race’. “Who will be the first to finish and who will drop out or won’t finish?” Look at it as part of the game.

This is the 3rd "marbles game" we have (as my son refers to them.) Here are some good points compared to other marble games:
1) Tons of pieces: I made the huge configuration as pictured on the box and had pieces left over for another setup.
2) Tight fitting parts: Snug fit, unlike another brand we own, that falls apart at a slight bump.
3) Fun Kooky Twirly Things: This has a loop-de-loop, and zig zags, windmills, and a bunch of little flippy things that would make for a really cool miniature golf course.

ONE DOWNER:
If your kid is into marbles, (like my 5 year old son) you probably have a big collection. This particular set-up comes with it's own marbles, but they are plastic and kind of lightweight. So we tried putting real marbles from our massive collection on the rig. And only the SMALLEST marbles would fit. If the marbles have any size to them, they get hung up at various transition points, and curves, etc. The good thing is that the most this game (or any of thes

I have actually had the privilege of seeing other marble tower-building sets similar to this one in action. These include less expensive and the more pricey ones that come from a catalog and/or toy party. Marble Race is the BEST! The key factor being that the bases are much wider and thus more stable than competitors. And the pieces stay connected. We've built Marble Race towers up 4ft and they do a very good job of not tipping over or dissembling. The pieces are easy to connect and disconnect--even my 2.5 y.o. could do it no problem. The box and contents are light enough that he can manage without help. We've had our set for over 2 yrs and it's still a favorite. The plastic it's constructed from is slightly bendable--not hard plastic that will easily crack. Even the marbles are all plastic (the silver coating has not come off either!) It's a great toy to facilitate problem-solving, fine-motor skills, and balance, not to mention following directions, colors, shapes, etc. We
