I bought this easel for the sole purpose of using the dry erase board. The dry erase surface is not glossy and has more of a satin finish that does not allow you to erase. It took a lot of spray and a lot of elbow grease just to remove a few letters. Definitely not worth the trouble.

Also, the quality seems very questionable and although I am returning it immediately I do not think this would tolerate much use as the wood is cheap and unbalanced. The first one I returned because of a chipped piece of wood. That should have tipped me off right there to get something else. Read more

I plan to use this product for homeschooling purposes and for everyday arts/crafts.

I like that it is 2-sided b/c both my kids can work/play at the same time. I also like that it is height adjustable. There are 3 levels (low, medioum, and high) My kids are 4 and 5 and I have it set it at medium level already. The downside is there is not much difference at all in the different heights. Probably and inch or so between each. I have a flannel board (purchased from Mannings) that I use for homeschool and it fits perfectly on this easel and I just twist the knobs up at the bottom and it sort of holds my flannel board in place so my hands are free.

The chalk side is ok and works fine, but you do have to press down a little harder on this chalk board than you would have to on the typical chalkboard in order to make your marks. It does wipe away cleanly though unlike the dry-erase side of this easel.

That is probably the most dissapointing part of this entire easel...the dry erase

I bought this easel for my two toddlers because I liked the idea that it was wood and the price was nice. When my husband started to assemble it he noted that it looked flimsy but we decided to go ahead and finish it and try and use it. Well, it lasted 5 days. Our boys knocked it over once and the wood on two legs immediately split where the screws were inserted near the top. Since we had thrown out the box we were not allowed to return it so now we are stuck with a broken easel. We were able to fix it so that it is somewhat usable and now we have it outside on our deck and they love painting on it. I figured they can just use it until it totally falls apart and then we will replace it with a better one. The chalkboard is poor quality - you have to press really hard on the chalk for the lines to appear so that is somewhat troublesome for little ones. I painted over it with some chalkboard paint and now it seems to be more user friendly. The white board does not come clean easi

I bought this about a year ago, but only put it up a few months ago. I am very surprised to read some of the other reviews, because we quite like this easel. I think it is a great product for the price. Mostly my kids have used it to paint on. We have had a [...] sized paper roll on it so maybe that helps to keep the kids from knocking it around. I occassionaly wash the paint off the white board side using diapering wipes. We have used it with Expo brand dry erase markers without any problems. My daughter who is 2yo uses the chalk side regularly, and I haven't noticed any problems with having to press hard. There were instructions to rub chalk over the entire surface before 1st use, which I did, so maybe that helped. I would have given this a 5 except that I would have like to have had the white board be magnetic, and also have a bar at the top to allow posters and felt board to hang and flip easily. But as I only paid [$] for it,how can I complain? Learning stores have much

Don't Buy This Easel!

This item was purchased for my three year old. It's a great idea, but extremely poor in quality and usability.

The quality is questionable as one of the legs snapped in two as I was putting it together... it couldn't be glued, so now it's taped (which looks horrible).

And, what others have said about the chalkboard is accurate. It is totally useless! I'm actually thinking about buying chalkboard paint to cover it... or even just buying another, WORKING, chalkboard. The idea and technique others have mentioned for "seasoning" the board are impossible as the chalk won't even write on the board, no matter which way it's tried.

I suspicion you'll regret this purchase once you get it home.

... hope this helps! Read more
