I wanted to really get hot and sweaty in this thing before I reviewed it. The reason I bought it was because I need rain gear for a canoe trip this summer, and I need it to pack small. So, I chose this over the REI Granite Falls jacket for it's packing size, despite that the Granite Falls jacket felt better comfort-wise.

First, the fit: It fits well - not baggy and the waist doesn't go beyond where it should. The sleeves are a great length and all-in-all I really like the way it fits, which is why I've started already wearing it as a casual jacket. I actually lent it to a friend of mine for an afternoon, and looked at her at one point and commented that she had a nice jacket, forgetting that I had lent her mine. While that doesn't speak volumes for my intelligence, it proves my point that it looks nice and fits well.

Second: Breathability. It seemed like it was breathing well, but I wanted to really push it before I decided how I felt. I biked to work today (about 70 degrees ou

I love this jacket. I love the fit of it as it is a bit shorter than a lot of jackets @ waist lenght. It is very light wieght. I only have one complaint. The rear of the hood is adjusted with a velcro which does not give you enought option for a really secure fit. I would much rather prefer a draw cord. So I went to the hardware store and bought some additional velcro tabs that I stuck to the back of the hood right where I would need them in order to eliminate additional unwanted slack and that is an acceptable solution although not ideal(draw cord would still be better). Overall a wonderful jacket still. Read more

I live in Northern Michigan and kayak, bike and backpack regularly. I bought this jacket to replace my Marmot Pre-cip rain jacket that I lost. I loved the pre-cip but this Aegis is a far superior jacket for not much more money. I'm 6'2", 180lbs. and the jacket (Large) fits perfectly with space to wear a couple layers under the jacket. It breathes well, truly is waterproof and keeps out the wind as well. It has tapered arms to fit more naturally and has a great casual look. I recommend this jacket to anyone with similar needs. Read more

At 5'8" 150, I'm a pretty standard "Medium" but this jacket was swimmingly large on me; the sleeves went past my fingertips; even with a fleece jacket underneath, the Aegis was overly spacious. No internal pockets, which I consider a major negative in rain gear. Hood came down past my eyes and, without a draw cord, would have to be worn over a cap to keep from blocking my vision. Light weight, but not significantly lighter than my old Moonstone. If you're stouter than I, don't need internal pockets, and don't mind wearing a hat under your hood, you'll probably like the Aegis just fine, but I don't Read more

I recently used the Aegis on a 5 mile trail run in the rain. Worked Great! Breathability was excellent with just a light weight breathable L/S shirt on underneath. Cut is nice. I am 5' 7", and the Medium feels perfect, you can wear it over casual clothes or mid-layer shirt or fleece. It sits just right past my waist. It is not too long like several Patagonia's I tried on.

Only recommendation is to add a Draw Cord Hood, instead of Velcro. But that being said - buy the jacket. Read more
