This unit DOES NOT have a battery, which is very disappointing since I did not find out until i received it. It can only be used when plugged in to an external DC or AC power source such as vehicle cigarette lighter or your home 110 AC outlet. I like it very much and I would have kept it and recommended it to friends and others if it had a rechargeable battery. An internal micro hard drive would make this unit ideal and a must have. I guess I will have to look for something else that is priced right and has the features important to me. Read more

This unit DOES NOT have a battery, therefore it must be used inside of a vehicle or by 110 AC with the adapter. Very flimsy mounting bracket. Both power cords supplied with unit DO NOT fit snug enough into unit to keep constant power. Any little bump or even a slight touch of the power cord attachment to unit will cause a break in the power necessitating complete reprograming each time it turns itself off. The power cords are not meant to be taken in and out as if it were a toy, its a fragile technological item that must be taken care of as if it were your wife.
