I reviewed this topper and the suggested down alternative cover together because, in my opinion, you should not use this product without a cover of some type. I have only used this topper with the suggested cover. Serta Topper Review My wife and I purchased this because the typical coil mattress is too firm for my back. I have two herniated discs in my lumbar (lower back) and scoliosis. Lying flat on my back aggravates the condition. I typically wake up in the morning with pain and stiffness, and I have difficulty standing straight sometimes. Here is my review of the 4� memory foam topper after more than a month of use. Packaging: The entire package felt a bit heavy, but not as bad as I had feared. It�s certainly too heavy for the tape used. There is only one piece of tape on each end and it was already ripped. My 9th memory foam topper to buy

This one was my ninth memory foam topper to purchase, and the second one from Overstock.com because their prices are so much better than anyplace else I have found for the quality and sizes available. I have a queen sized bed, and I was finding that the queen sized toppers locally available did not fit perfectly. The two I bought from Overstock.com were king sized and I trimmed them to fit my bed perfectly with an electric carving knife trimmed straight along the backside only. It is not hard to trim at all using an electric carving knife. Before, I bought the Serta King Size 4-inch topper 3# density with the two free pillows. This time, I bought the Ultimate Serta 4-inch topper with the 4# density, California King Size. The only differences I can tell between the two is the odor is stronger in this last one and it seems to be thicker or sturdier because of the extra poundage of density. I had never purchased a memory foam before, so I have no previous experience to base my review on.The reason I gave it only 4 stars on Comfort is this: My husband and I sleep on a Queen, we sleep pretty close together. This memory foam is so thick and 'squishy' that we sometimes end up in a 'sink hole' in the middle of the night. When you wake up like this, it's kind of difficult to get out of it and turn over to a new position. We didn't expect this, and at first we thought about using this memory foam for our guest room, and thought about buying another one that's maybe only half as thick for our bed. But, we decided to stick it out for a month. A month has now passed and we have agreed to keep it on our bed. We've both adapted to the change now. That being said, I must say this topper is VERY VERY comfortable! It forms to you in no time and I sometimes feel like I'm almost floating. I did quite a bit of research on memory foam before finally deciding to purchase this one. I felt like Goldilocks, looking for "just right". Well, it paid off and I'm extremely happy because this topper is everything I expected and more. As reference, I'm a female around 105 pounds and my husband is around 190 pounds. If it had been just me I probably could have have gotten away with a 4 pound topper that was just 3 inches in thickness but I wanted to be sure he wouldn't bottom out on it. He never once commented that he felt he was bottoming out on this one. We are both extremely happy with the firmness of this topper and don't feel it's either too mushy or too firm.***Now for the particulars and details: If you're curious just how heavy this product is, shipping weight on the queen topper is 45 pounds. i am some one who does a lot of research before buying an item. i read several reviews, sometimes more than a hundred before i decide on buying and item. i did the same for the 4 inch serta premium memory foam mattress topper.i will try to put my 5 month experiance ina concised manner.1) there is a bit of smell for a week. nothing great. if you use two bedsheets it is not even noticable.2) yes the pad looks pretty shady.it comes in a loosely wrapped plastic cover saying serta on it. tough to beleive i must say.3) the pad does a good job of relieving pressure points inititally. but over a period of 2-3 months the place where you sleep starts to form a permenant depression. that is not to say that it does not work .just that it is not as effective.i a weign around 175 pounds and my wife 110 pounds. there is a depression on both our sides so the weight does not really matter.i would recommend looking at some better memory foam topper if the budget allows it. of course they cost at least 1 … Read more
