The Pioneer VSX 1019 has similar functions to the Pioneer Elite VSX 01txh but at a reduced cost!!!…Sound quality (deep and rich) remains outstanding!!!...for small to medium sized rooms. Use a quality speaker "of course" (Energy Take Classics are fantastic). However, to get the best sound from your system you need to READ the manual before making changes to the many sound and video options (note: it has ON-SCREEN display to your TV for various input changes…plan on spending minimum 2 hours to explore all functions). It also has an automatic set-up for surround sound called MCACC acoustic setup mic…will use when I get speaker location fixed. Once you set-up the 1019 to your liking you can perform basic functions via two knobs (input selector, volume) and two "pre-set" buttons on the receiver or use the remote. The receiver quality is strong and works well with a variety of input sources (i.e., CD, DVD, Blu Ray, and iPod and standard FM radio with the Parsec LS-4 Antenna…Sirrus radio is

Being a YAMAHA fan for 30 plus years I was reluctant to buy this PIONEER, however I must say PIONEER hit a grand slam with this receiver. You would need to spend at least twice as much to get something comparable in terms of raw power and features. This receiver really DRIVES your speakers very effortlessly. The auto speaker calibration works well. The GUI is helpful when doing the calibration and when using an IPOD. I'm still in the process of learning all the options as far as the configuration goes. On the CON side I would say the owners manual could have been better written and the remote control layout is some what confusing. All in all this A/V receiver is the best-bang-for-the-buck I am aware of and is a great receiver at any price. Read more

I did have to call Pioneer Tech Support twice in order to understand the poorly written owners manual. They need to re-write it, but other then that I was very happy with this purchase. Read more

I finally decided to replace my HTIB JBL amplifier. There was nothing wrong with my JBL amp, but I've had it for almost 10 years now and wanted to finally take advantage of the new digital options. Not to mention clearing all those cables in the back and just going with HDMI connections. So I did some research and read the reviews on CNET. I wasn't sure how much I wanted to spend or what type of amp I really wanted. So came across some of their reviews and read up on this item. Reviews from CNET and other sites confirmed that this unit was the best out there for the options and price. I finally went through with it and purchased the unit. I did notice that the unit was alot smaller and lighter than my current JBL amp. The only complaint I have is installing the wires for the speakers. It's a pain. I wished there was an easier way to do this. After installation was done, I plugged in the automatic sound set up that came with the unit. It didn't take that long for the speakers to set for

I may be wasting my time by writing this for audio experts, since you probably do your research on other places besides bestbuy.com before you make a purchase, but just in case...

I'd like to start by saying this will be a more than sufficient receiver for most people. Will decode pretty much any format you throw at it, it has a great automatic setup (MCACC), and has a great upscaling chip (the 1019 has a Faroudja DCDi chip, which is a big thing that separates this from the 919's upscaling). It also has a wealth of sound mode DSPs for games, movies, and music, if you care about that kind of stuff. Also, the usb port for iPod with album artwork is a big plus, as is the sound retriever that makes the quality of mp3s much closer to CD quality. There is also now a color on-screen GUI, just like the Pioneer tvs and blu-ray players. 4 HDMI ports is also a plus, so even if you have blu-ray, ps3, x360, and a stb, you've still got enough inputs for all HD sources. Pretty simple to use as well,
