Have had this model since Jan09. I read here about a sudden turning off issue; I got this 2 weeks ago, 4x. Would just power off, not shutdown. Me thinks: Probably a hw issue, or, driver issue related to DMA, video. System attempting to preserve itself. No logs in bios; os logs of little value in this case. Much fruitless research followed. Did 4 things: 1 Open up and blew dust off of motherboard dust causes capacitance. Also CPU heat sink had LOTS on one side. It is held against CPU under spring pressure - rock it and blow out dust beneath causes CPU overheating 2 Jiggle-reseat all cables could lead to DMA issues on hard drive, DVD, etc 3 Unplug-reseat memory poor electrical connection due to oxidation of contacts; CPU throws unrecoverable exception and halts 4 Update video drivers Problem solved! Saw this online and thought it was a great deal for the price. Placed an order, which came very quickly in a couple of days. My initial delight vanished, however, when I opened the box and realized the CPU was covered in scratches, the sliding panel was broken, and the remote and corresponding cables were missing. Hooked everything up nonetheless and turned it on, but the machine shut itself down after a few minutes. Switched it back on, with the same result. Also, from what I could tell during the short time it was running, the preinstalled copy of Windows was fake. Returned everything the next day, thankfully without too much hassle. Read more

Let me qualify my headline with a few points - notice that it comes with 64 bit Vista Home Premium. If you want to use it for a Media Center computer this is an excellent choice. If you want a general purpose computer with some media features, then you would have to load another operating system (32-bit) to use the general run-of-the-mill programs. You can run some well behaved 32-bit software such as Microsoft Office 2003 for example but other programs might have to be configured for emulation under the compatibility tab with "run as Administrator" in properties selected as well - this may work but do not count on it if you need USB connectivity for the program such as camera upload via USB as the drivers for the connection do not work under 64-bit Vista and the vendors do not have 64-bit drivers in the pipeline as of now. If you are looking for nothing else beyond watching tv on a computer, surfing the web and a few ms-office applications, this guy will survive. IF you do more than that e.g picture & video editing, games, etc then don't consider this gateway. It crushed less than a week after start up!!! Read more

This machine is working flawlessly out of the box. If you read all the reviews than you know it has no case fans in it, so make sure you buy a 120mm and an 80mm fan and install it yourself. I also downloaded a freeware program called Speedfan, just to keep tabs on the temps. Make sure you burn your backup discs right away, also. This is the best computer I've owned yet, and I played the Sims 3 with no problem. It's fast and easy to upgrade, though I don't see the need for that for a while. You won't be sorry! Read more
