Reading camera reviews, to me, is a lot like reading reviews of golf clubs. People will try to push you to purchase what they feel they need, more than you feel you need, and they do not hesitate to spend your money for you. If you're moving up from P&S cameras and are looking for a quality dSLR, this is a great step. The Canon XS, despite lacking a few features of its big brother XSi (like Spot metering, a bigger screen, highlight tone priority), is a fantastic value, especially at Abe's prices. The dSLR market is quite advanced now. The quality of the XS exceeds that of the XTi it replaces. This camera has the tools you'll need for at least 95% of your photos. If you're just getting started into photography, you should get this kit just to learn basic functions, and eventually learn why in the future you may want the features of the more advanced models. I got the camera from JR on [...], and it had the cheapest price that I could find. Before i bought this camera, i read a lot of comment about it. Some said that it has a poor build quality, the functions are complicated, or even getting bored after a few weeks playing with it etc. However, i decided to buy it since i fell in love with it when i first saw it several months ago. When i received the camera, im totally impressed with its beautiful. If u are young, u would agree with me that a plastic body is not really bad at all. The camera is so light and look cool in the plastic body. The pictures are also very beautiful, i was totally satisfy with it and don't have any complain. When i posted some of the pictures i took by this camera on facebook, lots of my friend viewed and wrote positive comments about the pictures, they even asked me what made those pictures so beautiful, the camera or me? I would buy Canon Rebel again

I purchased the Rebel XS about a month ago, and i have been pleased so far. This is a great starter DLSR and would be great for anyone learning photography or even to use for portrait photography. With the right lenses, this may be a great camera. The kit lens produces a good quality picture for subjects that are fairly close, and RAW capture allows you to capture the shot without much digital noise at low ISOs. I got this camera to use in my photography classes, and so far the images are much better than the Kodak Z1012 I was using before. The image stabilization on the kit lens is less than impressive though and autofocus tends to hunt a lot in low light. I believe the quality of the lens is probably the problem here, but i end up having to use my tripod and focus manually to get really clear pictures unless it is very bright out. I also purchased the Canon 28-90mm telephoto lens from Adorama which produces a better quality photo, but neither lens works well at all in AF mode. I have … Read more

I purchased this camera just 3 days before starting on a cross country journey to photograph museum ships and I was able to shoot 13 ships in 15 days, this camera worked flawlessly as I shot over 6 thousand photos with virtually no problems. Working around Naval Vessels is not easy on a camera, with all the ladder climbing and hatches to go through that I did, this camera held up against all the odds. I am very careful with my equipment but that isn't always enough. The lightweight design of this camera was well appreciated on the long hard days that we endured. I have and would continue to recommend this camera and Abe's of Maine to friends and associates. Read more

This is a great camera! We have the standard 35mm Rebel/ lenses so switching to this digital was the right choice. My wife is a semi-pro photographer, she loves the camera. You can edit photos ( size/crop) on the camera before you upload to PC. It takes great black and white photos as well. Instructions are easy to use and software works great for editing. NOW, she wants the Canon D40 ! lol.............. The only thing I did not like about it was, Canon should include a starter memory card for this set up,considering the price. Other wise great camera, great value! Read more
