I purchased this lens to photograph a wedding in an old very small church. I am old school and I am used to using a 2 1/4" square with a 65mm which would be the equivalent of a 35mm on a 35mm. I have never purchased a Nikon lens that did not exceed my expectations and this lens is the same. I was looking at the Tokina 12-24 as well and spoke with a friend about this and he told me the same thing. “He has never purchased a Nikon lens that he was not pleased with”. So after photographing several weddings I am again totally satisfied with my purchase and I would recommend this lens to the most professional photographer. As with any extremely wide lens you have to be careful of the film plane parallel to the architecture and or the camera being level if you are concerned with convergence of your lines. And be careful not to put a large person at the edge of the frame as the wide angle distortion at or near 12mm will increase and distort their size. Other than the normal extreme wide

I got this lens to replace my most favorite Nikor 24mm (36mm digital, BUMMER!) It has helped awaken my creative juices. A D-70 owner for only 2 months, I have just completed 2 digital workshops and am scheduled for 3 more in the next 3 months. The results are superior! I am and advanced amatuer since 1976, have six Nikor lens, a Minolta AF system, and a 4X5. I've had my own home darkroom, and went kicking & screaming into digital. I love it & Photoshop and at 77 I'm still not too old to learn! Read more

Well my TOKINA 124 PRO was for the CANON 20D and I want to tell you that this lens is very impressive in it's construction and performance. I wanted a reasonable priced constant F/stop
Wide angle zoom lens for my CANONS that was "built like a tank" and had quality reliable optics.
The feel of the grip and weight instill confidence of the product as you handle the everyday shooting weather in the studio or field work. If I had taken the time to look at this TOKINA 124 PRO when it was first presented on the market acquiring one for both my NIKON and CANON equipment would have been a "no-brainer" as it would have been added to each setup immediately. So if you are looking for a great performing wide angle zoom that works and feels like a quality product at least try one of these on your camera before you make a "jump to conclusions" purchasing mistake. I would highly recommend this product to anyone. Read more

Although this is marked as a DX lens, this works great in the 18-24mm range on a 35mm camera, with no vignetting, and great IQ. I tried it on film, I can't afford a D700.The zoom action is smooth, with no resistance. The focus ring has no dead zone, and the AF-S is much quieter than, say the 70-300mm VR, 18-200mm, or the 16-85mm.It's not perfect, and even though the construction quality is very high, I don't like the fact that to unmount the lens I have to grip it from the top part, instead of in the middle. And every time I take the lens off my camera, the lens cap makes a clicking sound and almost falls off the lens. It's because I am squeezing the ring on which the lens cap is mounted on.It's made in Japan, and it does feel better built than my other lenses. Totally worth [*] Read more

I purchased the Tokina for two reasons. The first is that I have always used Nikon lenses, and they are great, but you need to pay $1,000 or more for one. I was heading out on a photo trip to Utah and wanted something wider than the 18-70mm zoom that I had. Nikon had a 12-24 f4.0 that cost around $1,000. I wanted something a little more cost effective and the Tokina 12-24mm f4.0 at about half the price seem to fit nicely. I checked reviews around the photo blogs and the Tokina was a very strong competitor with the Nikon. The second reason was that I wanted to try out a third party lens. I see them advertised in photo mags all the time and was interested in trying one out.Man, was I amazed with what this lens could do. It's sharp as a tack with great color and great for landscape shooting for which it was purchased. I've also used it for walking around town while the DNC was here in Denver last week and it being a wideangle forces you to get in close to the action/subjects. One
