The 50D is well constructed, feeling sturdy and solid. Considering the many features, Canon have organized the interface extremely well; it is seems to be far better “sorted” than the interface of the Digital Rebel line of cameras. I’m principally a medium format landscape photographer but this immensely flexible digital camera will surely cater for just about any type of photography you can imagine. In use, one is immediately struck by the speed with which the system boots and by the rapid display of images – the new Digic 4 processor is blindingly fast. Also, the high resolution LCD is brilliant showing great clarity and color rendition. I have noticed that my cheek touches and smudges the LCD when using the optical viewfinder something that I’ve not really noticed in other Digitals. I doubt that I will use the Live View feature very often as for my work the optical viewfinder is better. However, the feature does work rather well and I’m sure I will experiment further with it

I love this camera! I was choosing between this and the XSI 450d. WHen I was looking up DSLRs i was making sure they were the best for wildlife and fast moving subjects, I wanted to make sure they were better than the high end point and shoots. I am thrilled I didnt go for a point and shoot!THis camera is a speed demon.
I took lots of pictures of my dogs on sports mode, as well as birds. I was surprised at how much zoom is in a 135mm lense. Of course for wildlife I'll need an upgrade to a 300-500mm lense in the next couple of months but at the moment the kit lense does well for around the house, parties, dogs, and other occasions where you dont need lots of zoom.
I got great pics in sarasota, FL with this camera, it is an amazing SLR and I would highly recommend it to anyone into wildlife/ action. The 6.3 fps is a great thing to have when shooting flying birds or ports.
The only small little con it might have is that it is pretty heavy. I'm not a muscle maniac and I have relativl

Immediately out of the box, using some of the photo modes I was able to produce photos that impressed some seasoned photographer friends.
I was able to catch phenomenal pictures of Blue Angels flyovers with amazing detail, and pictures of my children that belong in a frame.

My only difficulty so far has been mastering some of the manual modes. Perhaps it's the abundance of features, but I haven't found it particularly intuitive. I've purchased a book on using the 50D that I think will help me get the most for using the camera to more artistic effect.

Overall, I think that this will serve as a fantastic tool to help me re-engage in the hobby of photography. Read more

I bought this camera to satisfy my passion for equestrian photography and arty shots. I needed a camera with speed, and this camera delivers! I used to shoot manually about 20 years ago with a film camera. I wanted to learn to do that again. I am taking a class in equestrian photography and the class demands that we not shoot in auto modes. The very same week that I got my camera I started shooting in Aperture and Shutter priorities. I read and tried various settings in the manual and creative ideas, and within a week, I have taught myself to really use this camera manually. It's amazing. What is TRULY amazing is the support you get from Canon. they have a 24/7 support line for technical issues. I have called them about three times over the last two weeks to get help learning to operate the camera to its full potential. They answered right away, and helped me to understand everything I had questions about very quickly each time.

I took this camera to a cutting horse even

I was totally amazed at the difference between my old Canon XT and the 50D, WOW! My wonderful wife surprised me with the Canon 50D for Christmas, I had no idea! When I open the box all I can do was hold it, I was so overwhelm by the camera. I thought I had a great camera, the 50D made my XT look like a toy! Once I got over the shock and was able to learn the "controls," it was a piece of cake. The best camera I have ever had. The picture quality is awesome, it captures great color tones, a great camera all around! Read more
