I bought this lens to shoot Las Vegas, mostly at night. I was not disappointed! Crystal clear shots, fast 2.8 and ability to capture night shots with a steady hand and no tripod on my Canon EOS 30D. At less than 390.00 this is a great medium range lens. I am a fan of the powder coat finish (some are not) and the overall feel of the piece is one of quality. Zoom is stiff, not sloppy. No play or loose fittings, good weight and great all day size and feel. This lens is a huge step up from the Canon EFS 18-55 kit lens and far superior in every way. This is my first Sigma and first venture away from Canon glass... no regrets. Read more

Have been using this lens for the past few weeks. After hearing about Sigma QC issues I was initially bit skeptical, however I still went ahead and I am glad I did. It was a nice upgrade from my D60 kit lens. The focus is extremely fast and accurate.

I wish it had Image stabilization, I guess you can't wish for everything at this price:-) Another flip side is I see a little yellowish tinge sometimes and notice it mostly when the white balance is set to cloudy.

To sum it up it's a nice walk-around / travel lens and I enjoy its near macro capability. Stays on my camera for 80% of the time. Read more

I bought the Sigma 17-70 for my D100 after a recommendation by a fellow wedding photographer. I was not sure how this lens would compare with my Nikon glass but I have been very happy with the results. This lens has not left my camera since I first mounted it. So far I've shot over 5000 images in just 2 months with fantastic results. Very good color reproduction, fast focus, zoom is smooth. I love the macro feature, something I lacked with the Nikon 24-120 VR. Well worth the price! Read more

Bought this lens to replace the kit lens on my Rebel XTI. The lens works well and is a real upgrade from the Canon kit lens. For the $ I recommend it. Though Tamron is just introducing an 18-270mm with vibration control. It is a bit pricey,,, but would be an even better option over the kit lens. If 600$ is out of your budget,, get the Sigma 17-70 and you will be happy. Read more

Focus is tack sharp and, in macro, just about starts at the surface of the lens (UV filter). Lens creep is an issue, especially when pointed down which seems to be common with Sigmas. Used it for almost a year now, love it, buy it, done. Read more
