First off, I respect all experienced lensmen and experienced astronomers as they know more than I do about astronomy and lenses, I respect and regard their views to the highest regard regarding telescopes and binoculars and naturally astronomy. These are my first pair of giant binoculars. Let me tell you the price had me very skeptical about these giants. [...], Giants in the eyes of this beholder. The lenses are coated as I held both objectives and eyepieces up to a light bulb and saw a green hue. I took these Monsters with the heavy duty tripod to a nearby shore during the afternoon hours. I set the binoculars on the tripod, looked through them at a building across the river, each eyepiece was tight at first, then smooth as I adjusted each ocular. Collimation was perfect no problems. "Big deal" I said to myself "a building, what the heck did I waist my money on these giants for?" That is when the fun started, then I aimed these Monsters down the river, which with the naked eye, you r

I just received my Zhumell Tachyon 25x100 Astronomical Binocular w/Locking Aluminum Case and Zhumell astronomy tripod. I was expecting a well made unit and was not disappointed. The weather here in West Vancouver (yes it rains a lot!!) has not allowed any astronomical viewing except a short spell of moon gazing so most of the usage has been to watch the endless parade of ferry boats here at Horseshoe Bay. After tightening a few loose bits I mounted the binos to the very sturdy (and heavy) tripod and began viewing. Focus was easy but took a few minutes. Now all I do is point and view. I found that the binos work best when mounted at the balance point and after a bit of adjusting can now maneuver them quickly and smoothly. The trick is to allow just enough friction in up/down and rotational locks. Too loose and there is a bit of wobble - too tight and movement is sticky.I opted for the heavy duty astronomical tripod and am glad I did. These binoculars are HEAVY! The tripod would be more

After a great deal of internet research comparing Dobsonians, Refractors and Binoculars in the[$] range my 2 1/2 yr. old daughter decided to get me these for my birthday along with the Zhumell Heavy-Duty Tripod and cleaning kit. I think she made a wise decision and am very happy with both the terresrial viewing and astronomical views. Not an expert (yet) but I foresee many years of happy stargazing in the future for both of us. The binoculars are well built and impressively large, the tripod is sturdy but at the top end of what it can hold with the 25x100 and the cleaning kit looks good from the outside (I haven't opened it yet) [...] Read more

This is the best Christmas gift I've gotten in a long while. Thus far I've made casual observations of the moon, Orion (to include M41,) Mars, Sirius, and other major stars in the northern hemisphere. (I was amazed at M41 with these) As for a tripod I adapted an old Zenith VHS camcorder tripod, which has worked very well. Included are pictures for size comparison to give a better feel as to how big they actually are. (I'm about 6') Read more

I bought these in particular for viewing the night sky. I believe they would also be good for spotting game, and possibly birdwatching. If you are bird watching you could watch from quite a distance.
It is impossible to hold them still enough with your hands. You need a tripod. Most tripods are very expensive. The tripod needs to be very strong because the binoculars are very heavy. I bought a tripod with a motorized mount, and had a friend fabricate an adapter for the binoculars (see atched photos). You will see a counterweight on the system, but I need to get a longer rod to put it on, because it is not nearly heavy enough. Even this setup is not still enough. My next step is to sink a 4x4 into the ground with concrete and secure the mount on the top. Read more
