THIS PRUDUCT IS VERY USEFUL, WHEN TAKING PICTURES WITH OUT STOPPING TO CHANGE BATTERIES . ITS A LITTLE HEAVY . BUT THE FEEL MAKE'S IT FEEL LIKE A REAL PROFFERSONAL CAMERA, WITH LOTS OF GRIP... I ALSO RECOMMEND THE HAND PALM STRAP BY CANON... SO DON'T BUY FOR LESS FOR A ORIGINAL PRODUCT..
''' IT PAYS. TO PAY MORE ... Read more

If you are looking for a grip to use on your 40d BG-E2N is the best choice. I am a professional photographer and am familiar with most of Canon's line, I use the 40d as a backup/remote camera for most of my work. I bought the grip because it really helps handling when working with big lenses like a 300mm 2.8 or a 400mm 2.8- both of which I use regularly.

Will this grip make your 40d feel like a 1d series body? No, but it does give you a much better handle on the camera, especially if you have big hands and/or have pro-sized zooms and telephotos. The grip makes the camera feel much more balanced, and having a little more surface area for your hands is always a plus. Keep in mind even though the grip is plastic you are still packing two batteries inside, so the weight of the camera will go up. This is not an issue to me, but if you hike or want to travel light, you may find yourself leaving the grip at home.

I have not used the previous model, but I can tell you that compared to

Having used and enjoyed the Canon BG-ED3 for a 10D, I found that having a BG grip has made it much easier switching orientation between horizontal and vertical shots while using the grip. I sold the 10D and the BG-ED3 grip and, as a result, bought this one as a replacement "companion" for a new 40D (since the BG-ED3 is not compatible with the 40D). This grip has near identical features and works pretty much the same. Only big difference that I recall between the two is that the on/off switch on this one is more obvious and positive. This grip also has a convenient place to stash the battery door from the camera (which needs to be detached - easily - to use this grip). This grip may be a few millimeters larger than the BG-ED3 front to back. As a result, I'm not sure that the edges of this grip camera combo are as comfortable as the edges of the BG-ED3/10D camera combo in hand; this one just seems to be a little bit larger. But since I can't do a direct comparison now and the comb

Makes the camera bulkier and heavier, but that's to be expected. I actually like the bigger grip and bulkyness of it. Makes me feel more secure when I have larger lenses on it. I you are using a 28-135mm lens and feel that the body and the lens are too large, don't buy this. If you are looking at getting into serious photograpy, you need this. Read more

If you own a Canon 50D, the BG-E2N vertical grip is a must have. Your vertical compositions will be much easier to handle with the " at your fingertip" controls. It fits ergonomically to your 50D body and affords you extra power with double BP-511A LITHIUM-ION BATTERY storage. The design of this grip paired with your 50D gives you secure feeling while shooting. A real nice feel when panning. I can't imagine having my Canon 50D without this vertical grip attached. In fact, I wouldn't! Read more
