My wrists can't stand up to a can opener anymore, and electric ones constantly have to be replaced. This was bought #1,on the reputation of the company; #2, because I don't like multiple appliances on my counter top, #3, I'm a scratch cook and need to open many containers for ingredients when I start my cooking/baking projects. This unit stands up to the demands I place on it, and with the variable speeds of the mixer, I can really zip through my preps. For the price you are expected to pay for this product and for how many years they have had to perfect it, not to mention the perceived value of the brand name, it is disappointing. Frequently does not cut all the way around, even with several rotations, especially on smaller cans. I have tried all different ways of inserting the can, to no avail. Off the shelf, self contained can openers for less than half the price have performed better. I own a stand mixer and hand mixer, both KitchenAid, which I love. However I cannot recommend this item. If you keep your Kitchen-Aid mixer on your counter, this is a wonderful attachment. It has eliminated the need for a free-standing can opener on our countertop. The quality of this opener is top-notch, with the heavy-duty magnet for can lid removal, you'll never have to fish it out again with a fork. It's so powerful, quick and efficient. I have owned my Kitchenaide mixer for about 20 years, and it serves me very well. I really thought the opener was going to be top rate. I am very disappointed with the operation. It does not open the cans completely even after 8-10 revolutions. I even tried putting a lifting pressure on the cans to open them and also pressing down on the blade.
