I have had my 605 80GB for 1 week. While waiting for delivery; I ripped 12 movies to .AVIs for an upcoming business trip to Honolulu[...], but no printed documentation. The pictures of this unit do not do it justice; it is attractive and very pleasing to operate. Hefty and solid; make sure you buy a nice case if you plan to travel with it. WOW!!!! The screen is beautiful. Elegant comes to mind as I explore this thing. It locked up a few times or I just got impatient and forced a shutdown. I immediately connected it to my computer to transfer my data. 12 movies + 10GB of Music (my whole library) + 5GB of Photos. Whew, that took a while even with USB2.0 and a fairly fast PC. Connected to my WiFi painlessly, and I updated the firmware. Works great and very easy. This seems to have eliminated the lockups. At HomeMovie playback is excellent, occasional dropped frames. I liked it because I could save a lot of music on it rather than having to change my selection everynight, as I did when I had my ipod. If you do not mind having something a bit large then its fine; the size & weight did not bother me. The only problem was 30GB WAS TOO SMALL FOR ME! After I added my entire music collection and began adding videos and movies, I had a small amount of RAM left; I ended up getting an external drive to save things I was not currently using. Pricing is DEFINETLY good for quality; based on the features it provides, its better than an ipod and almost like a PDA. OVERALL: MUY BUENO!!! Read more

I purchased the Archos 605 mainly for traveling and viewing video and go online to check e-mail. Purchased the Web Browser plug in and it detect wirless network at easy. Speed wise is OK especially scrolling the page. I was able to go to all the web sites and checking e-mails without any problem. Make sure your purchase the Battery Dock when traveling. All the movies I converted in divx works. When play mpg files it asked to purchase the Cinema Plug In. I didn't since I have no intention to use the vob format. Just spend a little time convert the mpg to divx. Connecting to PC using USB to transfer files no problem encountered. Took 33 minutes to transfer 23 gb files. Sound from the Speaker is weak. When use my head phone it sounds great. I recommened this product. Read more

I have to tell you first off that I am not affiliated with Archos [...]. I purchased this device for our local fire department to record video from our FLIR device on one of our boats. We really did not have much faith that this device would do what we wanted it to do. I can tell you that it did. It was easy to setup and easier to use. The video quality is excellent. The only bad thing I have to say is that the internal speaker leaves a little to be desired. However, when listeing wearing headphones it rivals the sound quality of all the other devices we used. Archos has all the cool features, but I dropped my support the day it disabled the functionality to upgrade the hard drive or change the hard drive. If your device is broken, you can not change the hard drive yourself. That is the reason why my friends tell me to choose either Ipod, Sony UX ultraportable, Haier Rhapsody or others. I know many say byebye to this product. BTW the hard drive of Archos 30GB is smaller than its 20GB, 80GB and so on, which makes it worse than other model. Read more
